"War is a miserable business. . . . There is no avoiding the war we are intoday, any more than we could have avoided world war after our fleet wasbombed at Pearl Harbor. . . . Fighting this war in half measures will onlygive our enemies time and opportunity to strike us again. . . . We mustreject appeals to suspend military operations to accommodate the religiouspractices of affected populations. Fighting during Ramadan is no more a waragainst Islam than fighting during Hanukkah and Christmas is a war againstJudaism and Christianity."Nor should we agree to a cease-fire to feed starving Afghans. It wouldn'twork anyway. The Taliban have no interest in feeding their people. Theironly aim is to prevent our victory, and only our victory will alleviate thesuffering of innocent Afghans. It is clear that to destroy bin Laden andhis associates we will first need to destroy the regime that protects them.To achieve that end, we cannot allow the Taliban safe refuge among thecivilian population. We must destroy them, wherever they hide. That willsurely increase the terrible danger facing noncombatants, a regrettable butnecessary fact of war.". . . Now we have only one primary occupation, and that is to vanquishinternational terrorism. Not reduce it. Not change its operations. Nottemporarily subdue it. But vanquish it. . . . We did not cause this war. Ourenemies did, and they are to blame for the deprivations and difficulties itoccasions. . . . We can help repair the damage of war. But to do so, we mustdestroy the people who started it."- Excerpts from a column written for the Wall Street Journal by Sen. JohnMcCain (R-Ariz.), 10/26/01

This well-articulated article makes me think John can tell which way the wind is blowing, but after his two-faced behavior in the last 18 months, I still don't know that I would trust him.

This may be an attempt to garner more votes from the unthinking. I in general agree with what he said but i am highly concerned about his motives. Until he "proves" he will uphold the constitution, i will not recognize him as a true American patriot much less a political candidate.

McCain is riding on the coat-tails of anangry America. He's doing this so the re-call effort in Arizona will cease. He'sstill the same ole arrogant, socialisticbaffoon that he's been in the past. He'sjust putting on his pro-American face sopeople will like him again. Today he'sstill proposing a lot of anti-gun legis-lation. Removal from office should be hisdestiny. The recall effort should continue!
