has anyone fired the 4" S&W 500?

How is it? Is it a wrist breaker? Anyone reloading for the 500? Any good loads that are a bit milder than the fullhouse factory stuff?
Thanks!

The guys at my local gunshop won't shoot it anymore cause it kicks so bad. Personally, I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'll shoot it if I ever get the chance. Then, I'll hand back the remaining 5 rounds[B)]

I own one, and it is easier to shoot than my 629 .44 Mag. The 440 grain bullets are more of a kicker than the 325 hollow points, but neither is as bad as the .44 Mag.

I owned the 8-3/8" version. I am 5'8" and 165 scrappy pounds. I could shoot factory loaded ammo in 440 grain rounds all day long. Could even shoot one handed.

I made some reloads for my "baby" using 38 grains of H-110 using 440 grain rounds. Shot three rounds and about numbed my forearm and wrist for a month. Never shot it again.

Factory loads are loaded up light for this puppy, (I would guess around 30 grains). The revolver can be loaded up to ridiculous purportions. algore shoots his with 40 grains of H-110, (must be an animal).

I imagine the 4" barrel with factory loads would be a bear but not to bad. Loaded up "hot" it would probably shatter your wrist.

I have an 8 3/8" model, and a buddy of mine has the 4". We were out again shooting them earlier this afternoon. I don't think they are that bad to shoot, and in fact, I think the 4" 500 is more comfortable to shoot than my 5" .454 Raging bull (but not by much). I think if anyone realy likes to shoot a .44 mag revolver, they can handle the 500's without any problem. I don't think I agree with dheffley, however, that a 4" 500 is easier to shoot than a .44 mag revolver (at least any that I've ever shot).

Haven't yet. I'm looking forward to the opportunity.
By the way, Why get one if you're gonna' be afraid to shoot full power loads? Don't be "girlie-men".

How??? Now I may have to rethink my plans on the .44.......why can't these decisions be simple?[:(]

I haven't shot the 4". Mine is the 8-3/8", and it is mush easier to shoot than my 6" 629. I guess I should have explained better. I can see where the 4" would be a hand full.[;)]

    Eastwood,

Don't know where you live, but if you are anywhere near the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, I would be glad to let you try mine out.[;)]
