After a murder about a mile up the road from us, I convinced the Ms. to go to the range today and shoot. She did well. She could change mags, charge it up and empty it. Simple gun to shoot , my Colt Pocket 9. Simply point and shoot.( no safety, double action only ) She done well at 10 yds. THEN, I let her shoot the 12 gauge Defender with low brass. After 8 shots she had enough. Said it kicked too hard. I assured her , she done fine and wouldn't feel the kick should anyone ever get in the home. I was the teacher today. ( The Ms. teaches for a living). How many of you have taken your girlfriends or wife to the range or shown them how to operate a weapon?

My wife will shoot a .22 all day long and giggle like a child when she hits what she is shooting at but she will not fire anything bigger than a .22. Have taken her to the range several times only to hear her say "You done yet? Let's go".

Politicians are like diapers, every so often you need to change them, for obvious reasons.

Have taken my wife only a handfull of times.Only once with friends, hardly ever shoots and does better than most of us[:(]She goes just to stay familiar with the operation of her Taurus model 85 that she keeps in her nitestand. She tried the Mossberg only once and said no thank you.

She is comfortable and competent around them but has no great interest in them.CW

Little while back we both had a free day, with no plans, (at the same time WOW). The WIFE suggested that we go to the range. She started naming guns she wanted to shoot. Filled up some water bottles, took some balloons, and other fun stuff. Set up some courses of fire and had a blast. She likes to shoot almost as much as I do. She also helps clean them.

I don't want to steal this thread with my own so I will put this here.

I've been shooting for many years. My wife does not mind the guns, the cleaning and smells, the guys coming over to clean and the smells and beer drinking. She don't mind the reloading equipment, the guys coming over to reload, etc.

But for 15 years, even when I was into real competition in bullseye pistol, she never came to the range with me.

This Tuesday is the regular "Over the Hill Gang" shotgun shoot at the outdoor range (we also have a nice 12 port, 25yd, indoor range).

We bring birds, Lincoln and Sportrap throwers and shoot 3 boxes each, one box at a time. Then we usually go to lunch somewhere.

Well, my business partner (who isn't into shooting, but not anti-gun) decided that this Tuesday, he'd like to shoot shotgun and bring his 8YO along to watch, then we can let him try a .22 rifle at some plastic soda bottles.

Welllll, Mommashooter, who is on vacation next week hears about this and says, why I don't I just go and watch, I'd like to get out of the house and yadda yadda. I think she is gonna keep an eye on the little one, but whatever. This will be her first time ever to watch me shoot anything.

I'll let you know what happens.

Well guys, hate to derail the thought train but my wife has helped me improve my shooting skills. A displace Aussie, she moved to American in 95 to be closer to the Bianchi Cup. She was number 3 female in 2001 but missed the 25th anniversary Cup this year as she has been fighting cancer since last November. She shoots IDPA, ICORE, and NRA action pistol. Her gun of choice is a 38 Super for action, 9MM for IDPA, and 38 Special for ICORE. She has taught me how to more efficiently charge a revolver using speed loaders, how to lead the moving targets, and that I can clean the plates shooting weak hand. She has also fired a leg with the M1 Garand, (outshot me) and until giving it to her son, deer hunted with a 450 Marlin. Hell, I hated that guns recoil. She uses my DU shotgun with 3" Federal Turkey loads during turkey season. Now before ya'all get a vision of a 400 pound kangaroo, I'll tell ya up front she doesn't weigh 140 pounds soaking wet in full winter coveralls.

When We got married, my wife hadn't ever been around firearms, and since we were too poor to buy any, it wasn't an issue. Over the years [going on 34 now] I have aquired a number of interesting items that go bang, and in the last few years, she has gotten the bug. From not being comfortable with guns in the house, to haveing her own list of what I have to pack to go to the range. She has her own bolt gun in 260 Rem., and last year killed more deer than I did. Has here own revolver, in 32 H&R mag, and plans to apply for CC permit if the house and senate can override the MO Goveners Veto. It's been nice to have a shooting partner that also my best friend.

Rhonda sorry to hear of your wifes battel with canced. Will be praying for her.
Select-fire i thought that pocket9 would not work[:D][;)]. As for that shot gun. I think it weighs more than Ms Select-fire[:D]. So I would say she did pretty good. But I'll bet Buck could outshoot the 3 of us[:D]

P.S. Arnt you back from IN yet?[:p][:D]

When I was a child, I thought as a child. But now that I am grown, I just wish I could act like a child and get away with it.

For a "get well quick" present back in 1979 while the wife was in the hospital with some kind of a gut clearing, make you feel like .... virus, I bought her a Remington 1100 28 guage with skeet barrel! She loved it and shot with me for a while but her eyes would never let her catch up to the second bird in a double so she quit! then we had NANCY!!! I am ringing wet with sweat, and sitting down to cool off from loading up the truck with NANCY's belongings to head back to college tomorrow!!! One of these days I'll get Mrs. GHD back out to shoot something!!!! At least her daughter(mine too, SARAH) likes to shoot! Funny thing these genetics!!!!! GHD

TOOLS1, thanks for the prayers. Its been a tough year and not over yet. intercessor, I'm also hope Gov Holden gets over-ridden on CCW, but not optomistic. Damn state is to liberal and the "big city" control is not conducive to gun ownership. It's really great hearing how many significant others are involved in our hobby. Good friends are hard to find and to marry one is almost a miracle. Wife says,
"Go girls", enjoy the time with the guys.

My wife goes with me most every time I go to the range. The only real exception is when my buddy Carl goes. Every other word out of his moth is the "MF" word, and she can't stand to be around him.
