lathe help needed

Buddy has a very old Hardinge lathe and it has a Wescott 6906 chuck on it. He has broken the jaws on this thing.

Chuck is 6 5/8 in diameter.

My problem is I just don't know enough about lathes to ask a question. I have searched internet and haven't been able to find a chuck with that number. Will other jaws possibly fit this chuck?

Can anyone give me some guidance on how to find the right jaws for this? Thanks, Tom

Are you saying that the master jaws are broke?

Master jaws are generally not interchangeable between manufacturers on scroll style chucks. I will see if I can dig up some chuck information. It maybe cheaper to find a used chuck on eBay.

What model Hardinge and what is the spindle diameter. If the chuck is a screw on, what is the threads? If it is attached with a base plate what is the bolt pattern diameter?

The best thing he can do is buy a new chuck. He will have to Google the model number to find out what the nose mount is, then he can order a new chuck or find a used one with the same nose mount and just change it out.

If the master jaws are okay, and only the top jaws are damaged, he may be able to find replacement jaws or a few sets of soft jaws where he can turn or bore them as needed.
