Anyone ever seen one of these before?

Just had our local gun club's swap meet. One of the guys had a NIB "Spitfire" .45 cal carbine. It was an open bolt design and looked like a cheap cross between a Thompson and a Sten gun. It had three grease gun magazines with it. It was made in the early tomid 60's and the guy wanted $400 for it. I'd never seen one before and couldn't imagine why anyone would want an open bolt semi auto unless it was easier than hell to convert to full auto. Somebody bought it so I guess they figured it was worth the $400. So does anyone know the story on this strange weapon? Beach

P.S. Now the pistol at the show that really got my attention was a 38 Special wadcutter National Match 1911 made in 1965. Beautiful pistol with an extra magazine; guy wanted $1300 for it. Beach
