Orphanedcowboy,I think I'll pass on that at least until I win the lottery ... I had heard a couple years back the .17 was making a comeback ... guess its true!alledan, ... is that what you use when going out snipe hunting? I've been wondering about that, Heck I'd be happy with a 50 cal sporter!

Dr Pig is right on the money. I've expressed that very sentiment and comparison on another board (TFF), so I'm happy someone here agrees with me.We are seeing a few ideas that didnt pan out originally make full circle. The Winchester 9410, and now the .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire. Maybe they are hoping a new generation isn't as astute as their fathers.Mark my words: flash in the pan.

I agree it will be a will 'o the whisp, and you can't hunt elk with it either. I may buy a few boxed of ammo to sell to the cow- boy in a few years though...

Can't wait to buy a case of ammo. Give it to my kids to hold until their kids are ready for college. It should pay for tuition for at least one semester. The case of 5mm RF I picked up in 197x did! The comment about recycled unworkable ideas is interesting. I have examples of multi-ball rounds in almost every US military rifle caliber from .50-70 to 5.56. All experimental. None worked. Lots of money wasted proving that some pigs really can't fly no matter how great the theory is on paper. I have no doubt that some gnome out there is even now working on the next version of 5.56 duplex which will work no better than the Colts of the 1980s . . . .

If they suckered us in with some low priced ammo for a year or two it might take off.I'd rather see some rifles and pistols come out for the 25 Stevens & then have the Russians sell us the ammo for $2 a box.On second thought maybe I'll buy one of these H&Rs to keep in my Edsel along with the Dardick and Gyrojet that I keep in the glove compartment.

About 1989 Shooting Times did an article about a gunsmith in MO that was necking down .22 mags to .17's. If this is the same beast I'll take one for sure!! even if ammo went out of production you could always have it rebored for the magnum. I'd rather have a bolt action though.WOODS

Another "new" old POS. I'll stick with my Mod 92 25-20 tack driver. And it's purty too, in spite of being 97 yrs of age.berto

I will buy one, and when it goes belly up, which I seriously doubt, I will take the barrel and rechamber it for .17 rem, and fit it to one of my centerfire handi's and have a 22 mag fitted to the old receiver. I am willing to pay the $12 a box, considering I pay almost $7 now for 22 mag and it's accuracy is a bit lacking. Just my 2 cents.

Hope the armchair experts in the five-sided puzzle factory don't find out about this....it'll end up as the ammo for our next squad infantry weapon.

I love when they come out with new stuff. NEF will sell some, Ruger will sell some 77/22 (or will they be called 77/17) rifles, and Hornady will sell some ammo. That, by the way, is the deciding factor. Ammunition availability. We'll see how fast the major players get into the .17 HMR ammo market. When Winchester first started shipping 9410's, I bought ten of them and sold them out in two days. Haven't had a single request for one since. I imagine I'll get a few of the NEF rifles and a few of the Rugers, but I still dont see it as a long term deal.

Long as they don't pull our drawes down we'll be okay, hard to shoot with one hand on the gun and one on ya draw string, I hate them big ole championship belts, hard to get around my dunlop.
