Rosie O'Donnell Stumps for Janet RenoBy KEN THOMAS, Associated Press Writer MIAMI (AP) - Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell hosted a $250 per person fund-raiser Sunday for Janet Reno (news - web sites), the former U.S. attorney general and a Democratic candidate for governor. ``When I heard that she was running I called up her office and told her I would do any and everything I can,'' O'Donnell said. O'Donnell was hoping to raise $50,000 for Reno, one of five Democrats attempting to unseat Gov. Jeb Bush. Asked about her chances of defeating Bush, Reno said bluntly: ``I'm going to win.'' Both Reno and O'Donnell, a foster parent, said they shared a commitment to helping children. ``It's a big problem in the state of Florida. There are over 3,000 children today available for adoption, free for adoption in the state, in foster custody,'' O'Donnell said. ``Chances are they will age out of the system, they will go right into welfare and into prison, so we need to do better for this generation of kids.'' The comedian owns a home on Miami Beach's Star Island, a gated community of mansions along Biscayne Bay. The closed event was held at a private home. Analysts said the appearance with O'Donnell could pose problems for Reno when she attempts to court voters in areas heavily composed of gun owners, sportsmen and military personnel. ``Anything that connects Reno to gun control means Democrats lose big in north Florida,'' said Susan MacManus, a political scientist at the University of South Florida in Tampa. http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20011230/el/reno_and_rosie_2.html

She will probably win out of sympathy. People will feel sorry for her because she is sick. Just like witch Klinton, people will feel sorry for her and vote because she married a pig, I think the two make a good couple and if I was billy married to her, I would cheat too!

Hmmmmm.... I don't think so. She's too decisive of a figure. People either love her or hate with equal passion. The best part of it is she's "one of five Democrats". All that money she's raising right now will go towards beating the other 4. But, I'm sure there'll be plenty of people who'll continue to fork over money to here who have no other interest the election beyond beating Jeb!

Hasn't Janet Reno done enough for the kids? She killed a couple dozen in Waco.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't she already do some work in children / family law that had a Cuban connection? The photo of that child being taken at the point of a SMG ought to play well as a campaign poster.

And besides it was for the child's benefit, so that he could grow up in a socialist dictatorship.

competentone--I'm sure you are making a joke there. I'm sure the kid REALLY knew that the finger wasn't on the trigger. I'm sure he is equally traumatized one way or the other. Here Elian, let's go to Disney World. Here, put on this designer clothing. Here, have some Pizza Hut.Knock, knock. It's the government. We're here to send the little boy whose mother died trying to save him from Castro so that we can send him back to Cuba. Fidel is our friend.

Whenever I would see Janet Reno on a news spot I would immediately think of that character Peter Sellers played in that movie "Being There." Excepting that Ms. Reno is female. (I think)
