Gas masks although affording some degree of protection from inhalation of air born chemicals and perhaps some radio active particles, are not the answer to terrorists attacks. Investing in these might be more detremental then useful, as they may make give the user a false sense of security.Inhaling gases thru this type mask will allow enough gas to be inhaled which might easily kill the user. If you have ever painted lacquers you know what kind of masks that give maximum protection, inhalation of ketones another vapors associated with painting are very harmful to the body, especially brain cells. The type of gases used by terrorist are deadly an a small breadth of some of these gases will kill within minutes.Other chemicals associated with terrorists and deadly to the body are those that enter through the skin, cause imediate blistering and affect the central nerveous system, death comes in minutes if not hours. Some defenses are available by use of syringe self injection. As for radiation exposure, it's good not to breath the dust created by a A blast, but usually the radiation found in dust that is airborn isn't what kills you, I'am not saying it can't, if your close enough to breath this dust you'll be dead from other causes, if your down wind 100 miles or so, a mask like this will help, but then again any kind if mask will do. The thing to remember about radiation is that it's a silent killer, one needs special equipment to know if one is in radiation danger, such as geiger counters, and dosimeters. If you are bound and determined to buy such protective equipment don't waste your money, buy the real stuff.Know having said that, if you were to ask, where can you purchase these, my answer is, I don't know.

next thing you know people are going to be building bomb shelters again. It never suprises me to see people fearing the worst when ever tragedy strikes. And I bet these are the same people who don't believe we should have guns either.
I spent all my money on guns, women, and beer. The rest I just wasted.wiredog70@hotmail.com

Regarding the link "alledan" has given here: they are selling nothing more than a simple "dust mask" with a little activated carbon in the membrane--it might give you some protections from dust and bacteria but will do little to nothing to protect you from the chlorine gas which is probably what any terrorist gas attack would involve.Besides that, THEY ARE SUBSTANTIALLY OVER PRICED for a "nuisance odor" mask--3M makes a "latex paint odor" activated carbon mask, which is essentially the same thing as what this is, available immediately at most hardware stores, for a lot less.Ofcourse, if you're at the hardware store, see if they have respirators with cartriges for "chlorine/acid gas" --you will pay about $40 for a good respirator and set of cartriges, but this could help you FOR REAL if you know how to use it properly. And as a simple measure, keep an ammonia solution (Windex window cleaner will work fine) with you at all times--if you're caught in a cloud of chlorine gas, soak a rag or piece of clothing with the ammonia solution and breath through the wet rag--the ammonia will help to nuetralize the chlorine gas and will help protect your lungs. If the ammonia solution is not available, as a last resort, you can use your urine--as it contains ammonia.Of course, always move upwind and up hill as the chlorine will be moving downwind and tends to settle downward (it's a heavy gas).Happy survival!
