By mentioning Gattaca, I assume you mean movies that were really good but received little popular notice. What kind of movies are you interested in besides science fiction? Also, have you seen most of the "classics" (before 1970) already?

Saw the movie "Snatch", this weekend. Very good.
Also so "Office Space"-kind of funny.

Blackhawk Down is good but dredges up some very hard feelings about how our military was treated under the Clintoon Administration.

When Clinton left office they gave him a 21 gun salute. Its a damn shame they all missed....

Check out the American Film Institute's web site. Don't have it handy but type the name into any search engine. They have a list, subjective, of course, of the top 100 films of all time. They also have sub-categories for comedy, action, etc.

If you're in the mood for a dark drama that follows the intertwined lives of four people on a roller coaster trip into the downward spiral try "Requiem for a Dream".

Guaranteed to leave you nauseous, depressed and entertained with a thorough respect for the ill effects of drugs.

"At Cloose Range" starring Christopher Walkin. A pretty fair story about the Johnson Brothers crime gang in southern Chester County, PA during the 60's & 70's. Thay stole our neighbors old Farmall tractor one time and later found out that he was poor and they had hit the wrong farm so they replaced it with a new $20,000 Allis Chalmers.

Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.

    Songcatcher--early 19th century,woman goes to appalatian mtnsas
records original songs of scotlant and Ireland as handed down'

The Cowboys, John Wayne as rancher herding cattlewith a bunch ofschool' boys.

thru a cabinwith a bear chasing him. Says "You skin this one, I'll go
get another..." runs out theback door.

The Bean, english comedien, lots of physical visual comedy.

The Patriot, Mel Gibson Revolutionary War setting...excellent!

Never Cry Wolf...scientist, unprepared for Alaskan wilderness, meets
    reality.

    Fiddler onthe Roof...musical

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers...hilarious fight scenes set to music.

    Conan the Barbarian. A classic.

    The Alamo. With John Wayne.

13 Days to Glory. Much later flick. Has Alec Baldwin (GAG) as Col. William Travis, but the story is more historically correct than John Wayne's version.

Gone To Texas. Little known film about Gen. Sam Houston.

    Apocalypse Now.

    Spencer's Mountain.

    Shenandoah.

    The Outlaw Josey Wales.

    Red Dawn.

    Old Yeller.

    Savage Sam.

PT109. I know it is a lot of hokum, but still a good story.

Ensign Pulver, and its predecessor, Mister Roberts.

    Dr. Strangelove.

    The Longest Day.

    The Ten Commandments.

A little bit late to this thread, but -

"Papillon" - Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman; great movie, can't believe nobody else recommended it.

"Cannery Row" - Nick Nolte; quirky, but worth seeing.

"The Grey Fox" - Richard Farnsworth (good character actor); story of the "gentleman bandit", worth renting.

    THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER MADE

I think if you are looking for a great movie to watch try the all time classic "Yentl", full of great action. Or the classic 1970's movie "Break Dancing 2, Electric Boogaloo". All you need is a piece of cardboard and gravol in case all the spinning makes you sick. They should be available on video in your area. You haven't experienced the best in film making until you watch these gems. [;)
