Anybody know how to prepare a set of deer antlers for mounting? The antlers I got last fall still have some flesh and fur on the top, do I boil them or maybe soak them in bleach water? This is the first time I'm going to try and mount a rack, so I really have no idea.Thanks!G36

I've taken an old soup pot (don't take one of your wifes good ones!) filled with water and bleach, get it boiling over a camp stove...do this outside or in your garage, otherwise it will stink up your house. I've used a handheld propane torch to burn everything off and finish scraping with a knife or wire brush......after everything is cleaned up then I sometimes use a grinder to shape the back of the skull to get the angle just right for fitting to a plaque....attach the skull plate to your mounting board with a couple of screws and your done.[This message has been edited by Rembrandt (edited 01-27-2002).]

Personally, I leave the fur on, it does dry, if you keep them in a cool, dry place. If you want just the bone, and live in a sunny location, just put then on the rear window deck of your car and drive around back and forth to work for a few weeks, the sun should take care of the rest (don't let your wife drive the car during this period, unless she's real understanding like mine!)
