CMP Garand question

I am interested in the CMP program. I need to be a memeber of a club in order to buy one of the firearms. I looked in their club list. Most of them are VFW, or junior shooters clubs. I'm a single parent, and my time is very limited. Is the "club" requirement just a send in the money issue to join? Do I have to pass some shooting test?. Any posts would be great. I also have seen CMP Garands for sale. I don't beleive this was the intended result of the CMP program. Am I wrong?

Back when I got mine, I had to join a CMP affiliated club and shoot in two high power matches. The signed score cards were sent in to CMP with the application.

A CMP affiliated online club, you still need to shoot a Garand clinic or a reststered shoot, or have a DD214 from the military
