Is it common practice to end an auction early if you are not getting enough bids?

"this is the type of person I end auctions early for,"

The above quote is from a feedback is obviously meant to be a compliment to the buyer.

Got me thinking. How do folks feel about ending auctions early?
Seems to me that if you tell folks an auction will run for a specified time you should honor that commitment.

If the seller ends early with bids, and there is no reserve, or if reserve is met, he is obliged to sell to the high bidder.I never end early when I have bids, though I have been contacted by bidders and asked to. It is not fair to the other bidders, nor to the seller.I will end early if there are NO BIDS, and if I sell the gun off auction.

17th, it is not common practice. I've done it a few times when I had mis-identified an item, etc. But if one lists it, IMHO, one is ethically, if not legally, bound to sit out the auction.

Not mentioned is the fact that a Seller and Buyer can cut a deal to end the auction early so that the auction site does not get its fee..certainly unethical.

I agree that "if you list it they will come" if not then- relist it with any changes AFTER the auction closes. I've edited a few auctions and even (God forbid)lowered some starting values, during auctions.

I'll end some early ONLY if there are no bids.
