John Deere LX277

This mower has a good engine,deck,almost everything is good,except typical JD cracked plastic hood and the transmission is bad.It has a Tuff Torq K62A.I am trying to decide whether to repair it or sell the good parts off of it.Any ideas?

If you put in a tough torque k72 you would have a really good mower

I put a front bumper my John Deere after I replaced the hood so it wouldn't crack again. You can get The hood, grill and bumper relatively cheap on Fleabay

Do you know specifically whats wrong with the tuff torq? My scotts mower has a K51a, when it started acting up I changed oil and its been good to go.

You can try emailing Derrick Dalton at tuff torq, it may be something simple like an oil change.

I traded some work for this tractor.The owner said it leaked for a long time and he would refill it with 30wt motor oil and it finally quit pulling at all.

You may be able to fix it, tuff torq sells repair parts, and has other info on the site. I'd again recommend emailing Derrick Dalton, he's the go to guy for these things. Mine just needed an oil change, John Deere put 10w30 in it (I refilled with 10w30, just to make sure it worked again), tuff torq recommends 5w50 synthetic.

You can try purging air from the trans, it wont work if there's air inside.

I found a used transmission,but what appears to have happened to the bad one was that the oil leak was coming from the oil reservoir hose.Tightening the hose clamp would have probably stopped the oil leak.As the oil leaked,the external trans. fan constantly blew a light coating of oil on the trans,which built up about an inch of dirt and debris sticking to the trans case,holding in heat and preventing the fan from doing its job resulting in the overheating and failure of the trans.
