Choose one rifle...FOREVER!

I know it's been beat to death, but I'm bored. If you could only own ONE rifle for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? We're talking about ONE rifle. No add-on units like .22 convertions or anything else. And yes, it must be a rifle capable of being carried. Crew served weapons do not count! ONE rifle for the rest of your days. Let the fun begin! Don't forget to list why!

I would have to choose my 22.magnum 1) It will kill a deer. 2) It will kill any small game without losing any meat. 3) mine is light weight and holds 12 rounds.

Do we get a shotgun, too?If not, I'd take the HK O/U pump in .223 and 12 ga. Obvious reasons. With handloads, it would take about any form of game in a pinch.[This message has been edited by boeboe (edited 10-03-2001).]

I could not argue with shane here,I might step up to one of my .218Bees,just load them for the occasion. That`s what I`d do if I gave it good thought. But I love my model 20 Savage boltgun in 250-3000,and my small collection of 99s in various calibers. They wouldn`t be as practical as the Bee though. I would be torn up over this. What kind of ~ Evil ~ would cause me to have to make this decision?

I can't decide! It would either be my Olympic M-Forgery or Remington 700 VSSF in .308 ... both take nato rounds and extreamly proficent for what they were designed to do ... ... Probably use M-4 to take back the rest ...

Don't have one....would think about getting one if one was the only one I could own.Cooper-Sauer Scout Rifle in 7.62 NATOReason: Adequate tactical capability, great hunting capability, very good accuracy, excellent all weather capability, great carrying characteristics, excellent ammo availability.I think alot of people might pick various M-14/M1A clones for many of the same reasons. It's tough for me to answer this one as well, but for different reasons than the rest, I suppose. Currently, I have several AK variants in use. I'm in the process of selling these and changing over to a new Evil Family MBR. I've actually toyed with the idea of buying several brand new Bushmaster AR-15's in differing configurations (CARs for the wife and kid, full-size for Da Da). Ammo availability is fantastic for the AR's and replacement parts, accessories, manuals, are all in high supply. However, I've also toyed with the idea of going to the M1A for me and the Scout for the wife. We brow beat the pluses of the M1A just last week, so I'll let the old posts stand for themselves instead of drudging it all back up again. I'm still working out my MBR dilema. The M1A, the Bushmaster AR, the DS Arms FAL? What to do? I will say this, the folks at www.dsarms.com were very helpful in explaining to me over the phone why their product is superior to all the other rifles listed here. Excellent salespeople at DS Arms.

Bushmaster CAR AR-15 H-BAR. It shoots accurate and will throw a lot of lead in a short amount of time.

I just got back from the Range with my new M1A, and still in afterglow, but if I could choose one gun it would be a Finnish Valmet AK with lots of high cap mags.

Evil ATF - I just read an article in the October edition of American Hunter (just got it today). I was thinking of your questions the entire time I read "Why I Hate the 30-06" by Jon R. Sundra. Kind of puts everything into perspective. Just wondering if you read it and maybe it sparked your inquisitions. In regards to your question, I'd probably have to go with something I don't have yet. Probably that Browning White Gold Medallion .270 I've had my eye on.

Roosta Man:Nope. I don't hunt too often, unless you count Democrat season, so I don't read American Hunter. It's just one of those common questions that makes you think about what's REALLY important in a rifle, shotgun, or handgun.

I'll go Democrat huntin' with you anytime. It was the craziest thing reading that article because as soon as I started, I was thinking to myself that you must have read the article the day before me and that's where you were headed with your question. They usually have some good gun reviews in there, but the author kind of lit into the 30-06 and how it was a good all-around gun, but he couldn't think of one situation where he would actually choose it over something else if he had access to other choices. Yet, he said if someone was to own one gun, it was his opinion that it was the best all-around caliber for North American game. Kind of contradicted himself in the end, but I got the point.

One rifle ... tough decision ... would have to be a Winchester Model 94 ... guess I'd go with a .22 just for max shooting all year long.Bonne Chasse!
