I'm praying that we'd get back to what our coins say ... In God We Trust. Unfortunately as a nation, I think we have strayed a bit.

Good one...I agree that our oaths and currency should remain as it is,but I wonder why Lincoln had our money changed to include those words back in 1863.I may be wrong about the exact year, but was it because the Confederates were Godless? Our money up until then did not include those words. Why did he change it then, during one of our nations most difficult times?

    That's a great one...

I wish some of these liberal a-holes would take that to heart...

I thought that the "In God we trust" was put on money during the Eisenhower administration-however I could be wrong.
If it was in fact Lincoln who did it, it is probably because he wanted the people of the Union to believe that God supported him in the atrocities he committed against the people and the constitution.

I am not so concerned about what is printed on the coins and paper currency-I am more concerned about the fact that nothing backs the currency-lets get back on the gold standard.

Salzo...I did a little more research and found that it was Samuel P. Chase, the Secretary of the Treasury at the time who was mostly responsible for the change. It was the result of a letter writing campaign of a Protestant Minister.Took place in 1862-1863.I think the actual change took place in 1864.Many different slogans were concidered.

BUSHYAR-Thanks for the info. I could have sworn that it was during the Eisenhower administration that "In god we trust" was put on the currency. Maybe Im confusing it with "under God" in the pledge.

Salzo...no problem friend...I collect coins too when my gun buying habit allows it.You are right about the pledge thing. The "Knights of Columbus" helped bring about that change in 1954 I think.Part of the "anti-communist mania" of the time. They were Godless in some peoples eyes.Cold War stuff makes strange history.Remember the atom-bomb drills in school? I do,and still wonder what protection my desk would afford!

A friend sent this to me and I decided to pass it along to y'al ... sad to say, but there is more truth than fiction in what is being said!

    A NEW school prayer!
    MAPI 1.0 storage : 768 in winmail.dat
Since the Pledge of Allegiance and The Lord's Prayer are not allowed in
most public schools anymore because the word "God" is mentioned.... a kid in Arizona wrote the following NEW school prayer. I thought it was worth
    posting here:

Now I sit me down in school
Where praying is against the rule
For this great nation under God
Finds mention of Him very odd.
If Scripture now the class recites,
It violates the Bill of Rights.
And anytime my head I bow
    Becomes a Federal matter now.
Our hair can be purple, orange or green,
    That's no offense; it's a freedom scene.
The law is specific, the law is precise.
Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice.
For praying in a public hall
Might offend someone with no faith at all.
In silence alone we must meditate,
God's name is prohibited by the state.
We're allowed to cuss and dress like freaks,
And pierce our noses, tongues and cheeks.
They've outlawed guns, but FIRST the Bible.
To quote the Good Book makes me liable.
We can elect a pregnant Senior Queen,
And the 'unwed daddy,' our Senior King.
It's "inappropriate" to teach right from wrong,
We're taught that such "judgments" do not belong.
We can get our condoms and birth controls,
Study witchcraft, vampires and totem poles.
But the Ten Commandments are not allowed,
No word of God must reach this crowd.
It's scary here I must confess,
When chaos reigns the school's a mess.
So, Lord, this silent plea I make:
Should I be shot; My soul please take!
    Amen!
