Washington-AP -- It's a face-off that could define just how strong organized labor is.The Teamsters and United Parcel Service have opened negotiations on a new contract to replace one that expires in late July.A two-week strike by the union crippled the delivery giant in the summer of 1997.U-P-S says it believes starting work early on a new contract is the best way for the two sides to protect themselves.The two sides exchanged proposals today at a Washington hotel.Teamsters President James Hoffa says the union wants to negotiate a historic deal that, among other things, increases wages and pensions.He says the U-P-S Teamsters "make U-P-S run on time."

Everyone should be used to it by now,UPS increases its' rates every year because their employee's get raises evry year,regardless of their contract status.Not to worry though,the Postal Service,Fed Ex,Airborn are all expected to follow suit.

Since when does UPS run on time?????I can get a package (same size/weight) from Phoenix AZ to Kansas via USPS in 3 days, UPS takes 5 and its usually crushed.

The Red lable shipping on handguns still has me using th post office. Out here there is no such thing a red lable delivery. But they charge for it. $20.00 from one town to the next and it never leaves the ground.Dishonesty runs deep any more, from the court house to buesiness.
