Iraqi opposition calls for US strikes to oust Saddam http://sg.news.yahoo.com/011012/1/1kc7j.html LONDON, Oct 12 (AFP) - A London-based coalition of Iraqi opposition groups, the Iraqi National Congress (INC), on Friday called on Washington to expand its anti-terrorist military strikes to oust President Saddam Hussein."We expect the United States to make a military strike against the regime of Saddam Hussein for its links with al-Qaeda," the network of Osama bin Laden, the main suspect in the September 11 terror attacks on the United States, spokesman al-Sharif Ali bin Hussein told AFP.The United States "must attack the (Iraqi) regime and not the Iraqi people. This time, they must relieve the Iraqi people of Saddam Hussein," he said."The Iraqi opposition has evidence of links between Baghdad and bin Laden and his organization and this evidence has been passed on to the American administration," he said, notably charging that the Iraqi ambassador to Turkey was a liaison between the two.US President George W. Bush said on Thursday that Washington was closely watching Saddam, whose country has been under UN sanctions since its 1990 invasion of Kuwait."There is no question the leader of Iraq is an evil man. After all, he gassed his own people. We know he's been developing weapons of mass destruction," Bush said at a White House press conference. The United States has also warned Iraq against taking advantage of the strikes against Afghanistan to attack its neighbours or opposition minorities. The INC last month began 24-hour broadcasts into Iraq thanks to a 2.7-million-dollar annual budget provided by Washington as part of US efforts to oust Saddam.
