Petition for veto of Shays-Meehan / McCain - Feingold View Current Signatures - Sign the Petition To: The President of the United States The Honorable George W. Bush President of the United States of America Mr. President: We the undersigned would like to call on you to remember the oath you have taken to "protect and defend the constitution from ALL enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC" (emphasis added). The Shays-Meehan / McCain - Feingold legislation in it's current form is a broadside against the first amendment to the constitution. It violates your first principal to "Protect Rights of Individuals to Participate in Democracy", among others. Mr. President you are an honest man, which is the primary reasons you are receiving such support from the American people. You are also seen as someone who does not back away from a conflict. So Mr. President, We are calling on you to do the right thing and veto this legislation. Don't take the coward's way out of it, and let the Supreme Court find it unconstitutional, their response is not guaranteed. Unless the Senate blocks this legislation, you are the last real hope for freedom of speech in America, because you know as well as we do that once a right is lost, it is impossible to regain. But a veto is not enough in itself. Mr. President now is the time to teach America what this is all about, that it is an attack on our rights as Americans, and that the only people that this legislation will benefit are incumbent politicians. Mr. President, all America is counting on you. You haven't disappointed us yet, now is not the time to start. Sincerely, The Undersigned Link to petition http://www.petitiononline.com/p8riot/petition-sign.html?
