Shipping handguns?

It looks like the only legal way to ship a handgun from a seller to a FFL holder is via UPS-overnight. Are there any other alternatives? What shoud you expect from UPS when you walk into their shop to ship your handgun? Thanks.

If they ask, be sure and tell them the firearm is going for repair. That is the only way their tariff allows shipment by a nonlicensee. On the other hand, there is no law requiring you to tell them the package contains a firearm as long as you are shipping to an FFL. Realize though, that not telling them will jepordize any insurance claims that might come up.

I thought UPS only allowed shipment if for repair. FedEx will ship guns too.I just had to ship a handgun back to S&W for repair, they use FedEx overnight priority mail, and though someone else here said the gun had to be disabled, S&W told me you don't have to disable it, and they shipped it back fully functional. They just make sure you don't indicate on the box that it's a handgun, the address is just "Customer Service" instead of "Smith & Wesson". I think you may have to notify them it is a hangun, but not indicate it on the package.
