Tyler State Park Terrorism

Yesterday morning I had coffee with an intersting young person who was on her way to protest a deer hunt at a local PA state park. We had a very productive conversation/discussion about hunting. We both discovered that she has only heard one side of the story. I did not change her mind but she certainly did leave considering a different point of view. It was refreshing, for a change, to have an intellegent discussion with someone with a different position. An annual deer hunt to thin an overpopulated heard at the Tyler State Park in Newtown Township, Bucks County, PA was being opposed by various anti hunting groups including the Tyler Committee Against Deer Hunts which equates the deer hunt to domestic terrorism.

Every deer season we hear about those bozo protesters. I live about a half hour away from the park, and every year I consider getting a permit to hunt it, just so I can antagonize those idiots.

SALZO: Most all of those protesting simply just have too much time on their hands and an axe to grind. Unfortunately they draw in well meaning people like my breakfast friend and fill them full of misinformation. The fellow I spoke to from the Game Commission said there are fewer and fewer protestors there each year. I was pleased not to see my friend in the TV news coverage, perhaps she went back to campus after our talk. I found the best way to deal with the anti-hunting zealots is to ignore them as this enrages them not getting a reaction from you - they usually end up making a fool of themselves trying to taunt a reaction. Isn't it great that all Americans have the right to assembly and free speech no matter how ridiculous.

You are right Gunpaq- Thats why I neve wind up hunting there. The thought of antagonizing always enters my thought process, until reason prevails.
