Last months killing spree was committedby a NJDOC officer with his issued pistol. This months was done by a retired Newarkpolice officer;http:\\www.pressofatlanticcity.comAny LEO in NJ (retired or current) includingthe dog catcher, has the right to carrya concealed weapon. The average citizenhere is denied this basic right of self protection. How many more of us willhave to die before Gov McGreevey willaddress this issue?? A sad day indeed!joe

You already have that right to "keep and bear arms" and your state has is saying you don't, because it says it is a privilage, not a right. Arms means guns (weapons) to use to protect yourself/family/love ones/ect.. This right has been infringed by the civil authority and is illegal thus null and void! When are we, as Americans going to fight to get this right and others back, that our framers gave to us, and gave up all they had to acheive this Liberty! This right was given to us by our Creator- not by man.

Just a couple of more reasons why LEOS should not be exempt from gun control laws.

JODAN- Dont get on McGreevey. You all had a GOP governor for eight years, a GOP congress for eight years, and they did nothing with respect to gun freedom. NJ republicans are hysterical. They have eight years to do fix things, they only make it worse, and then cry about a governor who has been in office for a couple of months.

Hey GuysI'm not familiar with The NJDOC incident, but I know for a fact that the incident did not involve his issued weapon unless it happened while he was on duty. NJDOC policy prohibits anyone from taking a state weapon home with them. If this is what happened, someone is going to lose their job!As far as the Toms River incident, the individual has been retired for a long period of time. He has been reported to have been on disability since he killed a youth in a motor vehicle incident. This incident, shook him up and caused him to retire. It is reported that he thought that a satelite dish was in place to spy on someone. Let's keep it real guys and not use this poor individuals circumstance to whine about another topic.

glockkid40- Why does it matter that it was not a police issued weapon? It is not the gun, it is the shooter. And do you not find it a bit interesting, that the state of New Jersey would allow someone who sees UFOs and wears a tin foil hat to carry a gun, SOLELY because he was a former cop, but they do not allow a sane, normal every day non former LEO Joe from carrying?

Hello Glock kid,The intent of my post was not to ruffleany feathers but to "whine" about NJ'scrappy gun laws (I'm usually not a whiner)considering that I may be next on someones"things to do today" list.I quote from an article in the Atlanticcity press dated 1/28/02:"Investigators found Lambertson's .40 calGlock handgun inside Robin Bloodgood'shome, according to Kelaher. The Monmouthcounty Sheriff's Dept identified the gunas the service weapon issued to Lambertson,he said." (end of quote):I'm sure Mr. lambertson would be in bigtrouble now, had he not eaten his gun.Glock kid, if you are a LEO, I mean youno ill will, our LEOs do an overall good job.I am only lamenting our crazy (in NJ) gunlaws. I meant to offend no one, and I apologize to those I may have offended.joe

Jo-DanAs I said,I'm not really familiar with the NJDOC incident. To the best of my knowledge NJDOC is issued Smith & Wesson .40 cal. weapons. There was some talk of switching over to Glocks, but what dept. hasn't talked about it. It's sad to say, but I rarely trust any media source to check and get the facts straight (sensationalizing an incident just sells more papers). Yes Jo-dan, I am a LEO and no ill will was taken. NJ's gun laws are rediculous.Salzo, you are correct, it doesn't matter if the weapon was state issued or not. The loss of human life is what is significant . I was just trying to state that either the facts were incorrect or something went terribly wrong with the precautions put in place. As far as the "right to carry" issue goes,I am 100% for it as long as there is some form of qualification(range that is)required. I do think the 2 incidents touched on, still would have happened whether the individuals had the "right to carry" or not. Anyone with the intent to commit murder isn't going to be concerned about whether they are carrying legal or not.

I think the only thing that should be "required" in order to carry is a pistol. No "range" time, no background checks. The maximum infringement I could tolerate is a background check.
