Ok I know nobody will miss me or ask where I was when I get back but my vacation is over and I gotta go back out in the truck. I start a new job today with a different company and to "break" me in right I have to go to connecuthdfjd(however its spelled, still yankee land to me). So y'all have fun on here while I go play concrete cowboy for the rest of the week.

No that ain the reason, to much dang traffic and there is no place up there that was built big enough for trucks. The people up there are ok once you get away from the rat race. I love going to NH and Maine but I hate what I have to go thru to get there. I do have one question for you if you live up there, do they teach in Mass driving school that when entering a multi lane highway that you go to the middle lane and DON'T move and never allow them nasty trucks to pass on the right because they aint allowed in the left lane? I have to go to Enfield CT this evening and if you live anywhere around there look for a Smith Transport truck #512. If you see me give a wave (or new englander wave with the finger).

Anytime you see a mass driver on the road, remember that we drive that way because we can. I am one of the few people around here that lets trucks pass. Most people would rather not have them on the roads at all (they seem to think that merchandise is "born" on the shelf). My Uncle runs a trucking company in NY so he taught me young to mind my road manners.I live in Eastern Mass, so that is quite a ways from Enfield. If I see you though, I'll give you a yankee salute!

Good luck and a safe journey to ya, 7mm.Quick question though: Are rigs more prone to breaking down than regular autos?I might just not be looking hard enough, but I seem to see a lot of them broken down whenever I'm on the highway.

Per mile they are not more prone to breakdowns, The average truck has 120,000+ miles per year put on it. What happens is when you continually run at legal gross weight of 80,000lbs it tends to wear parts down, but the trucks are designed to run like that, detroit deisel and cummins can guarantee their engines for 1,000,000 miles, drive lines( transmissions and rears get 750,000 mile warranties, they are made to last awhile. But poor maintenence and hard driving can put a truck down quick. Greasing the truck on a regular basis and changing oil and filters at 30,000 miles is crucial to truck survival. Well, time has come to go truckin, catch y'all this weekend.

218bee- Yeah it gave me chuckle, but it sure wasnt me. I do not live in Philadelphia, but the rant was humorous. So tell me Bee, you being from flarda and all, aint us Quaker boys up here in PA considered Yankees? I keep hearing 7mm refering to "those yankees", and called me a Yankee several times. Him being a Pennsylvanian, I would think he would be guilty of being a Yankee just as much as I am.

7mm, you have my sympathies. It's common knowledge that after NY drivers have their lobotomies, they are eligible for MA licenses.[This message has been edited by Iconoclast (edited 01-08-2002).]

So I'm wondering has 7mm "outed" himself? Has he been a closet Southerner all these years in Penn and is now coming out of his closet in the resplendent glory of the South? Well I guess other people out themselves for other reasons....why not also for being a Southerner. I'll continue to be a proud "Yankee", who looks on "Reconstruction" as the period of "Southern Enlightenment". Now that should out a few Southerners on this board!! Beach

First of all, PA is south, and not Yankee at all. Just because they fought on the right side of the war doesn't mean they can boast Yankeeism. Things start getting very wierd when you cross the Hudson River and I wouldn't call anything south of NY northern. Iconoclast, as I said before, we only drive that way because we can.

rugernut3...ever heard about not bringing rocks and sticks to a gun fight?Salzo.....with deep respect to your fine personality.....ok.the butcher....I'll have to check my geography book again. I certainly thought Pennsylvania was north of the Mason Dixon line. Have we started teaching revisionist geography now?I love it when we start having these north south discussions. They are just so much fun. Beach

BUTCHER- You ever been to Jersey? You said things get weird when you cross the Hudson? Weird when you go up or down? I find it starts to get weird when you cross the Deaware(Northbound). And once you get ABOVE the Hudson, its total weirdness.

I think Jersey is wierd, as it is south and west of the Hudson. Let me rephrase as to avoid confusion. I think things get wierd WEST of the Hudson.

7mm...it's spelled C-O-N-N-E-C-T-I-C-U-T. Used to be a nice state 'till they covered it over in concrete. Still some nice areas in the northwest and northeast, but the central area sucks. It's two saving graces are UConn basketball, and it's a "shall issue" state.

beach-All I know is that New England wanted to secede about 20 yrs. before the Civil War. PA was not included in her plans, and if NY had gone along, the Union would have most likely broken up.My geography says that to be a Yankee, one must reside east of the Hudson River.

New England wanted to secede 20 years before the civil war? Hmmm. So why did NEW ENGLAND have a beef when the south wanted to secede?
