I admire our President for his difficult job.But you are right about the Ban expireing. We hope for the best, but must face the possibility it wont, and other restrictions imposed.Only time will tell but if all 80 Million US gun owners lobby together maybe we can overcome the Anti Gunners.

    Best!!

I think someone should list what the "average" gun owner can do, to help this cause. Letters, emails, who to vote for. Some kind of a list to help us all out. I'm sure the NRA is doing its part, but we can also help here. If there is something that I can do, I will help.

The ban was not under the authority of this government to inact in the first place as the government shall not infringe the right of americans to own arms- period! I have no use for such unconstitutional laws and wait for no government to tell me what I may do, or own, in relation to arms! Thats my way!

i HAVE A SICK FEELING IN MY GUT THAT BUSH WILL RUN WITH THE STATUS QUO ON THE BAN. I AM SURE HE WILL INSTITUTE MORE HARDER MEASURES TO ENHANCE HIS OVER DONE TERRORIST CAMPAIGN. THE 1994 AW BAN IS HERE TO STAY MAYBE NOT IN IT'S PRESENT FORM BUT IT WILL BE HERE-MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT!!!!!

remember a lot of districts are having elections this year...vote wisely and do your research...putting the right people in office and and will help us in the fight.

aside from that...send out as many emails and letters as you can. rally all the people at work and school and home to understand why this is so important and get them to write in as well.

check the NRA site and check the GOA site for the good politicians (i know thats an oxymoron) but its the first step.

The ban has only served to elevate the "assault rifle" to collector status. Shooting a NIB HK93 or AUG is tantamount to parking a 427 Cobra at WalMart. If nothing else, the ban has managed to keep an awful lot of guns in their boxes and in the hands of collectors playing the futures market.

Thats an interesting observation DWS.The only thing is I can't walk around with my pre-ban H&K 91 over my shoulderSeriously, I wonder if there are several gun owners/dealers who invested in a bunch of pre-ban weapons, that would let the government extend the ban without
    putting up a fight.

tsg: You bet. A ban lift would create a bear market that would suck down a lot of pre-ban specialty houses.

My understanding is that it is not up to the President as to whether or not the Brady Bill will be made permanent in 2004, but rather Congress.

Who controls the Congress right now?

    The Democrats.

    Why?

Because gun owners let their next door neighbor vote for them.

"Hell. I'm a life member of the NRA. I've done my share..."

    And the bleat goes on....

If I remember right the only time the president can order the military into action is with the approval of congress, but how long has it been since a president sought congresses permission for that?

Come on guys...weve got 2 years to win this battle. If we lose, It will we bring me to tears to see what this once great country has become. Our country has gone from guns being part of our everyday life to seeing them as evil killing machines. Can you believe that in one point in our history that civilians could own full auto "tommy guns", BARs, etc. and crime was the lowest then, then in almost any other time in our history. We have gone from that to not being able to own new guns with folding stocks and pistol grips, and they cant even be full auto unless you want to go through layers of red tape.

America helped defeat the greatest evil the world has ever seen in WWI and WWII. And that wouldnt have been possible without the guns that Americans now see as so evil.

Somebody has to light a fire under every gunowners *! and do it fast! Come on weve got to start working on this problem! Weve got to flood every government office with email and letters telling them how we feel and what has to be done. If antis got these laws past in the first place, we can be undo them! But we have to finish strong!

Collector, No way. I bought a real nice pre-ban HK-91 at the reasonable price of $1700.00 with all the HK toys with it. I shoot it all the time. I drive around with it in the pick-up. It gets rained on sometimes. It has been buried in prairie dog dirt. Not that I don't like it or take care of it, but, I bought it to shoot, not just to sit in the gun safe and look pretty. And as a investment?,,, god, why do people worry about money all the friggin time? Hey, it cost a little more, but it always shoots! And accurate....... MAN!

    There will be no extension.

According to the wording of the Brady Bill, it must either die in 2004 or become permanent. There is no inbetween.

Only if we get off our collectiv * and give the Republicans back control of Congress with the ridiculously large voting block that gun owners possess.

Otherwise, a DemocRat controlled Congress will vote the son of a * back in at which point it will be just as permanent as the NFA of '34.

Evil- I am suprised at you. Do you rally think that if the Republicans have the majority in Congress, the ban will go away? No way that ban is going to get lifted.
And to entertain the idea that George Bush will lift the ban is laughable. George likes gun control.
