5/29/2002 - House approves changes to concealed weapons law (Lansing-AP) -- Full-time and retired police officers wouldn't
have to take the eight-hour gun safety training required for a
concealed weapons permit.
That's according to legislation approved tonight by the state
House.
The bill was approved on an 88-11 vote.
It would prevent law enforcement officers from duplicating such
gun training, which is already required for their job.
The House also approved a bill to allow reserve and part-time
officers to bring their guns into areas now prohibited under the
concealed weapons law, such as churches, bars and arenas.
The bills now go to the Senate.
However, the Republican-controlled House didn't have enough
votes to exempt police officers from a provision in the concealed
weapons law that limits them to a point-oh-two blood alcohol level.
Supporters of the bill said police officers needed to be exempt
from the blood alcohol rule to work undercover.
But opponents said the bill was too broad.
The changes to the concealed weapons law comes less than a year
after it took effect July 1st, 2001.

So cops want to be able to blow a higher blood alcohol level then the rest of us subjects, 'cause they might drink undercover!?? Thats hysterical!
But hey, if we are so quick to allow cops to exercise more rights with respect to carrying firearms, why not allow them the ability to drive "drunker" than the rest of us.
