I don't know if anybody else heard this story, but a guy here in Tucson, Arizona was killed flying his remote controlled airplane. Apparently he was flying his own remote controlled airplane at the fairgrounds when he lost control of the plane and he crashed it right into himself. It's sad that he died, but how do you manage to crash your own plane into yourself?

Most all the RC airplane guys are dedicated, safe and well practiced in their hobby. Accidents can and do happen either from human error or blunders by idiots. Many a year ago two guys decided to fly RC planes on our DZ which was a private airfield. Not too long after they hit a real airplane landing (no serious damage) they were banned from the field. They would keep sneeking on and the cops kept chasing them off. Our solution to the problem was to let them operate for two weekends undesturbed and then put an end to this unwanted activity.
The following weekend a Spitfire MKIV and a P-51D Mustang were brought down by small arms fire. They look like real planes flying until they are hit with 12ga shotgun fire and then they look like dead fowl falling to earth. They never came back and never called the cops (one of our guys was a Hagerstown, MD, LEO).

Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.

I used to fly alot. I crashed a Extra 300 straight into the beanfield and it cost me $2000. Then came the gun hobby, so far so good, no crashes.
