I went to a pawn shop yesterday looking for a rifle and I saw a Steyr Prohunter .308, with a Leupold scope for $750. Is a Steyr prohunter a good hunting rifle, is it accurate and durable? I also see myself taking it to the shooting range alot if I do buy it, would it be good for that? And if I do buy it and take it to range or hunting(Ill be hunting whitetail deer), about what range could it reach out accuratly?

They are one of the best rifles you will ever own, accurate, dependable, and long lasting, but not cheap!

Any one know if they have found a new location for the factory? They have to vacate 1st of the year and last word was delivery subject to stock on hand & no warrenty work.

They are in Trussville, AL and are in a new building. If you want one at a good price you need to call Jo Jo's Pawn & Gun in Birmingham and talk to Bill Dollar.(205) 591-7296 Tell them Chris from CA said to call. They sold me 2 Steyrs and I love 'em! Wouln't give 'em up for much of anything. Accurate as all get out, light as a feather, and very dependable!

Will, I'm in Birmingham-the manufactoring factory has been sold by the owner (Bank) to B M W to expand yuppymobile production and Steyr has to be out 1st of year. Last I heard locally was that they had not found a new location for the factory and production was winding down.

Steyr will remain in production. There will be about a six month delay in shipments until they get settled in. GSI will remain US distributor.Press statement on GSI website and article in latest issue of SWAT magazine to this effect.

WILL270WIN. Re your response to Styer rifles. I have a .270 Styer Model M carbine for a lefty . It's a beauty but kicks the heck out of my left cheeck. I'm actually a bit 'gun shy" from the kick. Any suggestions on this or do I have a bad fit? Many thanks

I have a Forester model in .270 which I like a lot. It is probably not the most beautiful rifle I own, nor the cheapest, but it is probably the best built in terms of fit and finish. Bolt is tight and positive, not sloppy like a 700 Rem. and it is a sweet shooter. Pro-Hunter is a bit to tactical looking for my tastes, but it should do a fine job for you.

TDAH,I don't have a kick problem at all. Have you tried to lengthen the stock and refit your scope? Mine is all the way out and I would think this would make the center of gravity move a little in the right direction to stop the recoil. my friend is a little taller than me and says that it kicks to much. Of course, I might just be a tough guy. (HAHAHA)
