I just found a bottle of champagne my wife bought. I'm looking at the box that says "Perrier jouet." Okay, that must be French. Comes in a hand painted bottle with 4 hand painted glasses. Wow, wifey has good taste. Found the receipt, $102! Oh my God, what the hell is going on here? $102 and the damn thing better wash those hand painted glasses when I get done drinking out of 'em! Of course I ain't going to get mad cause of my gun buying habits but, $102, you got to be kidding me!

$102 is a bunch of money, but I'm sure it will be saved for a special occasion. Perrier Jouet is one of the best champagnes for the money and I'm sure you'll enjoy it if you like champagne at all. I know, it sounds like too much for anything, but us Americans don't understand what real champagne is. Champagne is only made in a specific region in France. That is where Perriet Jouet is made. Most everything else our local stores sell here in the U.S. is just carbonated wine that is labeled as "champagne". It's not the real stuff. I have a hard time justifying spending $100 on anything that's as dispensable as champagne. Once it's gone, it's gone. Like others have said here, the bottle will probably make a nice target. Enjoy the champagne!

Consider yourself lucky. If it had been a bottle of Dom or Korbel it probably would have been close to $200.

    Korbel for $100.00? I don't think so.

Beach has an excellent point. Two things can happen from here. You can argue about it and it can go in the back of the cupboard or back for a refund if that is possible. Otherwise, you can plan a special evening and share it. When live dishes out sour grapes, make wine out of em!

Some of you may remember I got reamed for a joking comment about a "three way" so I'm not even going there about 4 glasses. The wife and I will make it to France one of these years and hope to do my own taste test of champagne. Right now it's Moet & Chandon White Star.A good wine should not be judged on the outside (Name, price) but from within. You can and will always buy yourself another gun or gear, but don't miss a chance to be the great hubby that you are.I say get her something that SHE wants, could also get a lot of mileage from it.(Maybe go to AAA and check on B&Bs in your state or do a search on the web)Just an idea.........SxS

Got the skinny! She said it was on sale(WOW!) and it may not be again before our anniversary so she got it. Cool! I also think I may have found a receipt for a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue! (My anniversary present maybe?) This is going to be cool

FYI....according to France, the only genuine champagne is from grapes grown in the Champagne region in France. Most American "champagne" (primarily from New York and California) is made from grapes grown from cuttings from the vines in Champagne, France. Many of the vinyards in the Champagne region were destroyed during WWII. After the war, cuttings of these American vines were taken back to France to reestablish the Champagne vinyards. As for me, I'll take a fine vintage Boone's Farm.

Just found this stuff online (gift set) for almost $300. I might need to go into the bootlegging bussines.

Will, I would say don't question the cost.1.It could lead to a very enjoyable evening.2.File it away in your mind.3.The next time you here,"Do you think you should have spent THAT much for a new gun?"4.Your response should be,"Darling you showed me the error of my ways.If it's not top quality I will not have it!"

I've never liked the French, they can kiss my butt if they think they're the only ones good enough to make champagne, especially since their cuttings came back from us, the only ones that had enough intestinal fortitude to kick everyone else's butt and save our vines, idiots!

Rob,although the frech get a bad rap about being rude,I've heard and read that many are very grateful to US soldiers for their help during the war and still honor them today.I try to see good in everyone.Where does your dislike come from?

Unfounded heresay, most likely. I have never met one, just heard a lot of crap about them, is that stupid, yep. I have seen some on TV in interviews and they seem more arrogant than usual, for no reason. I've never met anyone from Louisiana I liked either, go figure, French decendants most likely. I dont discriminate against them, but I do have a predetermined expectation that when I do meet one, I'm not going to like 'em. Call me stupid, its ok, its been done before. I figure so long as I dont treat them any different, I can feel any way I like. Its kind of like how I feel about politicians, I've never met one, but people sure talk a lot of crap about them, so I figure I dont really have much use for them. The ones I see on TV dont impress me either, kind of like their policies. Hope I dont offend anyone from Louisiana.
