Planet Earth, continents floating on a molten core. This is caused by nuclear fission/fusion reaction continuously occurring in the center of our planet. This pressure cooker is constantly producing and refining heavy atoms out of lighter materials. Convection currents slowly move these materials to the surface. As the mountains eventually wear away they are exposed and it becomes possible to mine such things as Gold, Silver, Platinum, etc. Diamonds are created when this hot material under intense pressure oozes up through organic material. South Africa is an example of this phenomena.

Also, the advection/convection you refer to, the "pushing up"-causing tectonic mountain ranges-has created some of the most fertile soils on this planet. And it is the cause of mountain streams cascading downward, joining into rivers. It's all symbiotic, my man!! In a word, that's life!! Best, Joe

It's unlikely that fusion is occurring in the Earth's core - the pressure and temperature is simply not great enough to achieve nuclear fusion.
And fission, highly doubtful since fissile materials are relatively rare.
Other than that, I say we help things along and blast those mountains away! I want some gold and I want it now!!![;)][:D]
