CCI Primers

Anybody ever have problems with CCI primers? I loaded some shells with them yesterday and had prroblems with hangfire in the '06 and a few of them in the NEF wouldnt go off, the primer was dented but failed to ignite. Is this a common problem or did I buy 2 bad batches?
I have always used Federal but decided to try CCI since the Speer book is always praising them and I am not to happy at all with them.

I have used CCI primers for years. Reloaded thousands of rounds with them and other primers. I have encountered one (bigbore) hangfire in my life...about 35 years ago, but don't recall the primer brand in that round.

I suggest you may have gotten a bad batch of primers. Talk to the dealer where you bought them and call CCI.

I have known guys to sell primers and powder at gunshows that they had had stored in their hot garages for many years. Personally, I always tried to use fresh components...especially powder and primers.

I use almost nothing else except CCI.I have been reloading for about 30 years and have never had a problem. You must have gotten a bad batch for some reason.

Used to use nothing but CCI, lately I have been using nothing but Federal bench rest primers. As for Speer promoting CCI primers, it could have something to do with the fact that Speer and CCI are both owned by the same Parent company.

Well here's the deal. I just got off the phone with CCI. First they tell me that the firing pin in the NEF does not smack the primer hard enough and that they recieve complaints all the time about them. I have fired ammo out of my NEF that was loaded for use in semi auto guns, now the mil surplus ammo has hard primers to prevent slam fires right? So if the NEF will launch them it should launch CCI right? On the deal with the '06, they tell me bad powder is the problem, not the primer. Go figure, I used that same powder with federal primers and have no problem. See what I get for trying something new! Looks like I need to add 2 bricks of primers to Pelicans free stuff thread, 200's and 450's.

I load withh CCI and have never had any problems. Try loading other calibers with those primers and shoot them to see if they work or not.

I've used virtually every brand in every type and have never had a consistent problem with any; maybe 6 (?) misfires over 200K (?) loads. Last was a Winchester SP roughly two years ago. My purchase criteria has usually been whatever was least expensive - 10s of Ks of those were CCI. Sure sounds to me as though you have a bad batch!

7mmNut, I think you ought to give CCI another call and ask to speak to a customer service rep who might have some knowledge instead of an employee who knows who signs the checks!! That was pretty lame excuses for your problem. I have used CCI's for years and never had that problem although I have switched almost exclusively to Fed primers now with the exception of the CCIBR-4's that I use a bunch of. I'll bet if you call again you'll get better customer service!! If they still act arrogant just ask them "Just how bigga boy are you?" And say it like you mean it!! GHD

Is it possible they got damp??? are they new or old? I have used up all of the primmers from my brother that he gave me 5 years ago and he maked the box when he bought them and it says 1991. I think as long as they stay dry they are fine, by the way I have never had a hang fire or any other type of problem due to a primer.
    Good luck Rich

i think your problem is a reloading one & the rifle your shooting, not the primers, when shooting a rimless shell from an NFE or T/C it tends to head space on the extractor, rather than the sholder were it should, try backing the resizeing die off a little, check a resized case untill it just closes in the rifle, then with a new primer only, pointed in a safe place, fire it, this may cure all your problems, plus give you a more accurate load from your NFE.

I used to use CCI primers and they work in most guns. I have a couple old timers with weak hammer springs and they will not ignite the CCI primers. The primers are harder than some others. I now use excluively Federals I've never had a hang-fire or a mis-fire with them.
