What would you consider to the best 357mag revolver (preferably 2"-4" bbl, sts) for concealed carry in South Texas-type weather considering quality, weight, overall size, etc? What modifications would you make to it, if any?

Concealed carry in a place like Texas means sweat, which means whatever you buy better be stainless, and even then check it and wipe it regularly. I love my Ruger GP 100, but it could do double duty as a battleship anchor. I would say the best would be a S&W K frame, which in .357 stainless would be the model 66 (I think). It is as trim as a full-size, full-feature six-shot .357 gets, and can be had in two and four inch barrel. I know nothing about Colts or Taurus.
I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.--Voltare~Secret Select Society Of Suave Stylish Smoking Jackets~

my vote is for the Ruger SP101, it's kinda on the heavy side but tough as a tank...

I wouldn't go with the Taurus. They are beginning to look like sell-outs as well. They are currently undertaking a research project with some science organization in Jersey to create one of those user-identification systems that lets only one person fire the gun.

I also vote for the S&W model 66. I have one with 2.5 inch barrel and I love it. Nice stainless finish, well built and super accurate.Loaded with 125 gr. JHP, it's a bad *.

I've got the Colt Magnum Carry stainless 2" and I love it, but like the smith also.

Isn't the S&W M66 2.5" larger and heavier than the Ruger SP101 3"? Or is the SP101 heavier?

I'm sure the S&W is a bigger frame than the Ruger. Isn't the Ruger SP101 a five-shot?Dano: I still have the factory-installed Uncle Mike's grips on my 66. They're starting to get a little smooth, though. I've been looking at the Hogue grips for a replacement. I'll have to check out the Pachmyers.I've had the revolver for six or seven years and carried it a lot, so I guess I can't complain about the life of the grips. That's the best shooting snub nosed revolver I've ever had the pleasure to wrap a hand around. I'm a far cry from a top pistol shot, but I'm a deadeye sumbitch from 25 yards with that Smith.

Lowrider - the SP101 is a 5-shot. Do you think a 4"bbl is too large to try to conceal under minimal clothing?

I was thinking more along the lines of jeans and a light shirt. I save my special lucky thong for church, because I can't carry there anyway (legally).

just bought my wife a Taurus for her birthday for conceled carry, model 605, its only a five shot, but she loves it, and with her SMALL frame, she can conceal it very well. it is a 357, but she preferes to shot 38 spec. she can hit a nats AS- at 20 yrds. so I think it will work pretty well. tmtcw.
