But honey, now I need a black powder rifle!

Just got out of a meeting and found out I'm on pager support through most of the Thanksgiving week! That just blows, because it's the only holiday I give a rats *ss about so I can go deer hunting. And nobody wants to switch with me. Guess I'll just have to tell the future-misses that I have no choice but to buy a new rifle so I can hunt during the black powder season to make up for missing the main one.

Oh that rifle,I've had that for a long time in the back of my closet.
It's just that I haven't used it for years because I usually take my '06 for deer hunting over the Thanksgiving holiday.

GreenLantern, it looks to me like you have no choice. I am available to consult on the selction if you need some help, looks like I won't be getting a new one myself this year.

Sounds like a plan to me. (BTW, can't you take the pager hunting? Just set it on vibrate so it won't scare Bambi.)

Thanks HeDog! I'll probably take you up on the consulting offer later this summer. Still trying to get all the accessories on my list for the couple of guns I bought this last year.

BTW, I probably could take the pager with , but home is about 2hrs away from work so it'd probably be a little tough to hop in the car and head in if I can't handle it over the phone.

I am extremely sorry to hear that you are to be forced into buying a Muzzleloader. It will certainly be a traumatic experience.

Promise one thing, if you blackpowder hunt keep it traditional and don't "weenie" out and use one of the new fangled bolt or in-line guns, otherwise whats the point in smokepoling???

gskyhawk ~ I hunt around the Chetek (pronounced 'Shettek') area. It's about 40/45 min north of Eau Claire. I recently purchased the future misses her ring and we're also shopping for a house so my gun-buying is on hold till sometime later this summer at the earliest. What little play money I have left will be going for a new scope or AR upper. I'm going to print out this post though for when I do start shopping so that I can drop you a line.

gskyhawk ~ First of all, congrats on the 17 years!! I hope to make it there some day myself, and I got a good feeling about this one . Yeah, I know where Sparta is. Haven't had the opportunity to ever get there though. If you happen to venture up this way to your friends cabin anytime I'll tell you a good place to stop in and check out. Not a real big gunshop but sometimes you can find a nice deal. Run by the resident gunsmith so I always know what I've bought from him has gotten at least the once over and in good condition. I hate throwing the name of the place out here on the board! Don't want too many other people stopping in and stealing my deals.

GreenLantern: Hey thanks for the info if I get up your way I'll give you a shout forsure.
the best piece of advice I can give you for making it 17 years is having good communication with your other half, it always amazes me how easy it is to misunderstand what the other person is trying to say, so take the time to become a good listener, it pays off in the long run
    see ya
