anybody out there know if there is a measurement i can make on the outside of the receiver to tell if my 98turk was made in germany or turkey? i understand some turks were made in germany and sent to turkey. i beleive they have different barrel threads. i want to install a different caliber barrel and i see all kinds of barrels for the german but few will fit a turk 38 or so iam told. some gunsmiths say they all will fit and some say no. mine is a large ring 8x57 and i want a 270, 280 or an 06

If it is a turk Mauser 1938 it was made in Turkey with German parts, or made in Germany with German parts. Worse case on the barrel thread is that it is Small ring Mauser thread on the 98 action. even then you should be able to find a barrel. If you bought the rifle from J&G sales you have the good ones, you can get barrels for every day of the weekand two on sunday for real cheap.good luck.
