Gout sufferer's??

I've been a bad boy, Went nuts on eating shellfish over the weekend & washed it down with a bottle of wine. I'm now begining day three of a gout attack. Anybody else besides me living with this? I've been eating cherries like they are going out of style, no luck this time around. Anybody know of other home remidies? I've heard cherries & cranberries. This is my first bad attack in about three years.WOODS

See the Dr. and have him give you a prescription of Naprosen. They may even sell it as OTC.[This message has been edited by alledan (edited 03-06-2002).]

I had a bad case in 1973. Went to the Doctor and have taken 1 allopurinal tablet daily since then and can eat whatever I want. No further problems.

If Naprosen is naproxen, it can be bought OTC in Alieve. Works great for back aches (I don't know anything about gout, though).

Allopurinol isn't an option for me. I was on it for a while had some liver problems. I will try some alieve though. Ibuprofin doesn't seem to work any more. I thought alieve was just another ibuprofin. WOODS

Colchicine is the best med to stop an acute attack,usually in six hrs.But you have to see one of us to get the first prescription.cpermd

Alieve is Naproxen.

Strawberry's are the best. Most health food stores sell juniper berry and strawberry in pill form that works well.

By the Naproxin in the store brand (like Walgreens) and save about half the price of the National brands. Same stuff.

I know, Dano, I had to look it up. It appears to be similar to arthritis and is caused by chemicals in the body solidifying into sharp pin-like crystals at the joints. Can be very painful from the sounds of it.I hope you feel better soon Woodsrunner.
