FROM DEBKA INTELLIGENCE FILESSaudis change minds on U.S. supportPalace dispute behind King Fahd's secret departure to Switzerland
Editor's note: DEBKAfile's electronic news publication is a news-*-analysis live wire, online round the clock seven days a week. A weekly edition, DEBKA-Net-Weekly, is now available through WorldNetDaily.com. Drawing on DEBKAfile's unique sources, analytical talents and forward-looking insights, it is presented as a compact, intelligence-angled weekly package. It is available as a direct e-mail feed or via the Internet. c 2001 WorldNetDaily.com The United States has delayed its offensive against Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden because of a dramatic turnaround in Arab support, reports DEBKAfile, the private, subscription-only intelligence service. With the fleeing of King Fahd to Switzerland last week, as reported in WorldNetDaily, there are signs of a split in the Saudi royal family on the use of Saudi soil by U.S. military forces. By this afternoon, it became clear Secretary of State Colin Powell's efforts to create an Arab front to bolster the Bush administration's world war on terror was faltering. A palace revolution may be in the works in Riyadh, explaining King Fahd's secret exit from Saudi Arabia, followed by a large royal party. The reason? Differences in the royal family over support for the U.S. offensive against Afghanistan, Osama Bin Laden's terror network and other rogue targets following the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. King Fahd and his Sudeiri faction, including defense minister Sultan, were in favor of letting the U.S. place assault forces in forward bases on Saudi soil; the conservative, religious Crown Prince Abdullah, who runs the kingdom since King Fahd became ill, overruled him, backed by the religious establishment. As a result, Saudi Arabia refused to let the U.S. use the kingdom's new combined air operations command center at Prince Sultan Air Base near Riyadh, after Air Force Lt. Gen Charles Wald had been dispatched to the base earlier this week, to take command of U.S. air forces assigned to the Middle East and Southwest Asia. His mission was to run the air war from the new, sophisticated air base opened this summer, a base linked to Al Dhafra in the United Arab Emirates and Seeb in the Sultanate of Oman. The Saudi base was also to have been the central command post not only for the 175 aircraft already based in the region for patrolling south Iraq's no-flight zone, but also for directing attacks from other bases in the region in the new war offensive. When Gen. Wald landed in Saudi Arabia with his top aides Tuesday, Sept. 18, he was told he had no command base. That was when the feuding inside the royal house over its role in the American war against terrorism reached its *. The monarch's defeat in the argument inside the palace was apparently the main reason for his abrupt departure the next day, Wednesday, Sept. 19. The Pentagon has since then been casting about for replacement bases of operation and holding up the onset of the scheduled U.S. campaign. One of Gen. Wald's options for his command post is in Bahrain. Some of the fighter craft due to have been based in Saudi Arabia have been moved to Incerlik, the big air base in South Turkey, after Ankara made all its bases available for the American war effort, and the Uzbek military airport of Tuzel. Large-scale air and commando forces also landed today in Tadjikistan, on the border of Afghanistan. The American forces are now laboring to catch up with their schedule for the operation. The feud in Riydah also sent the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat racing to Riyadh to meet Crown Prince Abdullah and update his own strategy with the turn of events in the royal house. Palestinian experts expect Arafat to turn tail and back out of the accommodations he broached under U.S. and European pressure - including his commitment to a ceasefire.

Looks like they forgot the potential takeover of their country from Iraq. We saved their * then. Sems to me they have a short memory. Not too surprising - every time we help out a country they find an excuse to turn against us.

This is what happens when religious fanatics are also the government. This is why we have a separation of church & state.

I wonder if there are any minds changingabout the single mindedness of the arab now. Yassar did't fool me for one instant he has gotten over his fear that he might get what he has been deserving for some time. That is why I was against seeking world approval from day one. America was attacked and I could care less what norway or finland thinks about strikeing quickly and severly.saudis treated our G.I.s like crap while we were keeping Iraq from pulling another Hitler on them. doesn't anyone care what their children is taught about America and what happens when they are no longer children and have our purposely weakened children to share the world with. Anyone alive in those days will see how the cowardly attacks of 9-11 will seem minor in comparison. 0ur delay in responding makes it appear that we accept to some degree the attack. Thats the reason for the saudies change of heart. watch for Eygpt to be next.

This is part of the reason why I hate us being the COP of the world. We save their * in 1991 and now in 2001 we need use of their bases, which I am sure that us tax payers atleast partially funded and we are screwed around and denyed the use now that sadam is under our thumb. If we were to distribute our world cop justice alot more sparingly then these parasite countries that take from us annually would be more willing to comply with our crisis needs now. I certainly do hope that saudi arabia does stand with us and not against us they are a wealthy country that we still fund outta our pockets.I say that their is no more free rides on us taxpayers. If they want AID from us then they better give us a major discount on our oil prices, or else let them starve or be invaded I DON'T CARE. Maybe a tactical nuclear device strategically placed and detonated within afcrapistan's capital you know where the TALIBAN smoke their hash or chew the chat. The third world countries would rally to our side or flee in fear. We are coming and we are pissed and now all that remains to be seen is just how many targets in how many countries are we going to have when we get there. My gunbroker friends my opinions are narrow but my pride in america is high. I am tired of our sons and daughters dieing from those cowardly ba$*ards who see us as a target because of their jelousy of our way of life. I am also dieing a little bit each day that we don't retaliate with a vengence and get their blood all over the sand. WE NEED TO START KICKING * TODAY AND NOT STOP UNTILL THAT SAND TURNS TO GLASS. In my humble patriotic opinion.
