Scotland's Gun Crime Down 10/1/01Gun crime in Scotland has dropped to a 20-year low after a police campaign to enforce recent gun control laws, although the country also experienced a rise in gun-related incidents that resulted in death or injury, the Scotsman reported Sept. 28.There were 938 crimes and offenses involving the use of firearms in 2000, the lowest figure since 1979. The drop in gun crimes is attributed to an extensive police campaign to reduce the use of firearms and the tough gun-control laws implemented after the 1996 Dunblane massacre. On the other hand, there were 306 gun-related incidents in Scotland in 2000 that resulted in injury or death, an increase of 14 percent from the previous year.Police said many of the personal injuries involved minor incidents with air rifles. http://www.jointogether.org/gv/wire/news/reader.jtml?Object_ID=545970
