Happy Birthday, U.S. ConstitutionMonday, Sept. 17, is the birthday of the most important document in the long history of mankind's struggle for liberty, the Constitution of the United States. On that date in 1787, the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention met to sign the Constitution. That document represents the greatest expression of statesmanship and compromise ever written. In just four hand-written pages, the Constitution gives us no less than the owner's manual to the greatest form of government the world has ever known. In recent years the Constitution has been ignored by increasingly power-hungry politicians in Congress and the White House. In this time of crisis, with the very notion of liberty and the rights of the individual under assault at home and abroad, Americans should resolve to restore the Constitution to its proper function of guaranteeing the rights of all Americans and protecting them from governmental excesses. And we should take a moment to thank Almighty God for giving this nation a group of founding fathers who, by what had to have been Divine inspiration, created the perfect instrument for establishing the first government of the people by the people and for the people in all the history of the world. http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2001/9/16/195910
