Thousands Sign Petition Urging Senate Action on Bush's Judicial Nominees
Matt Pyeatt, CNSNews.com
Friday, June 14, 2002
A new petition urging Democratic leaders in the Senate to hold hearings on President Bush's judicial nominations has generated over 25,000 signatures, and more than 5,400 in the last two days.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) began the online petition because it believes Senate Democrats are obstructing the confirmation process for the president's nominees.

The petition, located at www.regainthemajority.com, also makes clear the Republican goal of regaining control of the Senate it lost last year when Sen. James Jeffords of Vermont bolted the GOP to become an Independent and side with the Democrats. Before Jeffords' defection, the Senate was evenly split, 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats, but the GOP maintained control because of Vice President Dick Cheney's ability to break ties in his role as president of the Senate.

During the last year, Democrats have been able to control the Senate agenda, including when and whether to hold hearings on Bush's judicial selections.

Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., chairman of the NRSC, said the people signing the petition are "watching how these nominations are being obstructed by the Democratic leadership in the Senate, and they are tired of it.

"They want it to stop. They want the United States to do its job - give fair and prompt hearings to nominees and get critically needed judges on the bench," Frist said.

The petition was first posted online at the beginning of May. Frist said he intended to personally deliver the signature list to the Senate Democratic leadership "at the appropriate time."

Dan Allen, press secretary with the NRSC, said the petition drive should motivate Democrats to move ahead with the nominations.

"Obviously, this proves that there is growing sentiment across the country that the Democrats continue to obstruct the president's judicial nominees," Allen said.

"At the very least, this is going to show that the American people are tired of the obstructionism, that they want it to stop and they want the U.S. Senate to move forward on the president's nominees and give them a fair and prompt hearing."

According to the Internet site, judicialselection.org, of the 11 nominations the president sent to the Senate on May 9, 2001, only three have been confirmed and none of the remaining eight has had a hearing.

A spokesman for Senate plurality leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D., did not return phone calls seeking reaction to the NRSC's petition drive.

Why Are Neo-Nazis Helping Chuck Schumer?
    Richard Poe
    June 14, 2002

Nazi-watching is an endlessly fascinating and instructive pastime. You never know what side neo-Nazis are going to take on any issue. One moment, they are mocking Arabs as dirty subhumans. The next, they are weeping crocodile tears over the plight of the poor, downtrodden Palestinians. For sheer movement and dynamism, watching the twists, turns, ups and downs of the various neo-Nazi party lines can be as challenging and invigorating as trying to follow the ball through a fast-paced NBA game.
Here's the latest. Ever since I suggested last week that Sen. Chuck Schumer might be engaged in a plot to obstruct vote reform, the would-be storm troopers at VanguardNewsNetwork.com (VNN) have been squealing like stuck pigs. You'd think I had accused them, rather than Schumer.

Now I realize that politics make strange bedfellows. But what common interests could possibly exist between a neo-Nazi Web site whose motto is "No Jews. Just Right" and a left-wing Jewish senator such as Chuck Schumer?

Here are the facts. Last week, I reported that Democrats, Muslims and hard-Left extremists had formed an alliance - the Coalition Against Hate Radio - to silence San Francisco talk show host Michael Savage.

The group claimed it was outraged by Savage's insensitive remarks about illegal aliens and Arab terrorists. But Phil Brennan of NewsMax.com suggested a more sinister motive behind the campaign. (See: Left-Wing Censors Go After Michael Savage.)

In a March 8 article in NewsMax (Dems Promote Voter Fraud), Mike Savage had excoriated Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer of New York and Ron Wyden of Oregon for blocking a bill that would require photo IDs for voters.

Savage quoted Wyden saying that photo IDs "could effectively straitjacket voters."

Straitjacket voters from doing what? The ID system would only obstruct illegal or unregistered voters. Ah, but perhaps that's the point.

As noted in last week's article, photo IDs for voters have proved extremely effective in cleaning up Mexico's corrupt voting system.

Prior to the 2000 election, Mexico instituted a new system requiring voters to obtain an ID card, complete with photo, signature and fingerprint. The result? Possibly the first honest election since the Mexican Revolution.

After 71 years of left-wing, one-party dictatorship, the ruling Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) was thrown out and President Vicente Fox of the more conservative National Action Party (PAN) was voted in.

What would happen, I wonder, to impregnable Democrat strongholds such as Chuck Schumer's New York state if we could somehow manage to hold a few honest elections around here, for a change? One can only speculate.

It's not hard to figure out why Senators Schumer and Wyden might wish to nip this sort of speculation in the bud. Hence the Michael Savage boycott. But what's in it for the Nazis?

Ever since my article appeared, the storm troopers at VNN have been bobbing, weaving, ducking, dodging and blowing smoke like a pack of Clinton spinmeisters circa 1999. Many of their rhetorical tactics seem to have been lifted straight from Lanny Davis, James Carville and Paul Begala.

I must have touched a very sensitive nerve.

First, VNN tried the old "Who cares?" routine. Under the headline, "Jews: We Don't Care," VNN sputtered, "The alarm bells shrill! New threat to Jews! . Here, Jew "Poe" (Pogrebissky) defends Jew `Savage' (Weiner) . Only 14 million Jews in the whole world, yet Jewish concerns are made to occupy our every waking moment."

Okay, so the Nazis don't care. Fine. Why, then, did they follow up with a second - and far more hysterical - rebuttal to my article, shortly thereafter?

"Jews get up in the morning and tell lies the way some people do jumping jacks," fumed the anonymous editorialist, who may or may not be VNN editor Alex Linder. "This is all a bunch of Jewish lies and confusion . just more jewish [sic] flim-flam."

Space does not permit me to unravel the labyrinthine intricacies of the alleged Jewish deception in which VNN found me complicit. Suffice it to say that VNN managed to kick up such a dust storm of spleen, indignation and raw emotion that it succeeded in completely obscuring the point of my article - which was, in fact, the suggestion that Chuck Schumer and other Democrats might be persecuting Mike Savage in order to silence him on voter fraud.

Why VNN would be spinning for Chuck Schumer is beyond me. But they are doing an excellent job. If they have not already billed the senator for their services, I recommend that they do so posthaste.

After all, as a famous Jew once put it: "The worker deserves his wages."

    The death tax lives

This week, Senate Democrats fully communicated their true beliefs to watchful eyes across the country. When it comes to "complicated" issues and debates, many liberals would rather the ordinary citizen have no earthly clue as to what the politicians are talking about.

Evidently, many liberals believe that ignorance is bliss for a Democrat's constituents. Most of the time, the holes in their political arguments are like Swiss cheese, full of baseless accusations and unbelievable gaps in their so-called "research."

This has come from a recent tax debate that made its way to the Democratic-controlled Senate. As with nearly every tax-cut issue, the Dems come out swinging, and it doesn't matter whether their charges can be backed up or not.

This has been greatly shown through the charges of the Democrats on the issue of the repeal of the estate tax.

Top Senate liberals were having a field day on Wednesday. Their greatest attack was that the bill was "tax relief for billionaires." Essentially, Democratic senators say that the bill, which was authored by rich Republicans, is only for rich people and big business and against the little guy.

"Strip it all away, this is a tax relief for billionaires when we have a very big deficit and we have other priorities," charged Sen. Byron Dorgan. Those priorities are obviously not for the hard working, tax-paying American people.

However, the simple and uncomplicated fact is that tax breaks always give the "big guy" a break. It's obvious that the more you earn, the more taxes you'll have to pay. Therefore, when there is a tax break, it will always save a wealthy person a substantial amount of money.

On the other hand, as with all across-the-board tax cuts, it will always help the "little guy," because it is all done in percentages. As with the estate tax repeal, a 100 percent tax-break for a middle-class family is the same thing as 100 percent break for a higher-class family.

The greatest kicker was when Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle said that the repeal of the death tax would harm the economy! Again, the simple and uncomplicated rule of economics states that the less a product costs, the more it will be bought. So, the money that is saved from the death of the estate tax, a person is likely to buy, invest or expand.

If it weren't for the needed super-majority that was put in place by our illegitimate Senate majority leader, the bill would have been passed by the Senate and made its way to the president's desk. The bill was voted in favor 54-44, but came short of a 60-vote majority.

In addition, besides showing their faulty arguments, Democrats and Republicans have shown their extreme hypocrisy when it comes to the farm bill and the estate tax.

The farm bill was created and passed to offer relief to farmers across the country. Especially in tough economic times and droughts, the relief was out to help farmers and ranchers survive.

However, no matter how much money you can offer a farmer in relief, I ask of the congressmen, what's the point? Because when the farmer and rancher die, the death tax will eventually eat up everything that's left!

The estate tax is nothing short of legalized theft. The government taxes you your whole life, you work hard, die, and the government then takes everything you worked hard for in life.

Furthermore, instead of the person's posterity taking hold of their rightful inheritance, the government seizes it and continues to redistribute wealth.

It is obvious that many of our so-called "representatives" would much rather us be an ignorant and incompetent society, so they can have free reign to do as they please and bring our country down the road of destruction. Our country has come from the way it was meant to be ? a free country and market ? to a socialist nation with politicians pulling the wool over our eyes.

By rejecting this bill, many senators have shown their true colors. Those colors are that of communism, socialism, anti-business and anti-capitalism.
