i'm thinking of starting with a 22cal.how does a beretta 87target compare to a smith&wesson 22a ? or would the 87 cheetah be better first gun ? next we are looking at a beretta 84fs in 380 , but the tauras pt99 looks good too . are the taurus guns any good ? any help would be appreciated . wrench .

you may want to look at the ruger mkII in .22 cal it has a wide range of aftermarket parts...the browning buckmark target isn't too bad a choice either... happy shooting and good luck

I personally like my Ruger with the bbl. Ten round clip, easy to shoot, little noise, not all that easy to completely break down the first couple of times though.

Most single action revolvers would be a good choice also. My experience is with Ruger and S&W, either is good. Some guns you pay for name and nothing more, some, like a Jennings or Raven, stay away from.

Just march on in there and say "I want a Desert Eagle .50AE for my lady! And if you dont have any of those, I'll take a Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Casull!"

    That'd be really, really mean.

If you do not have a lot of experience with handgun shooting, a .22 is a great place to start. A Ruger MK II is a very reasonable price firearm. I taught both of my sons the basics of handgun safety and marksmanship with one. Cheap to shoot, so you can get alot of practice for a few buck....JMHO

Ruger MKII is hard to beat for the money. Beretta 84 is a nice gun but she might also like the little Bersa 380s. Let her handle as many different guns as you can and she will let you know which one 'feels' right to her. IMHO Taurus' quality is now as high as S&W got down to.

THE RUGER .22 IS GREAT FOR A TARGET PISTOL.THE TAURUS IS AN OK PISTOL.I HAD A PT111 9MM THAT I SHOT APPX 300 RND THRU.MY WIFE DIDNT LIKE IT BECAUSE IT KICKED SO BAD.ANY MINIATURE PISTOL KICKS GLOCK,KEL-TEC ETC...I BOUGHT MY WIFE A SIG-SAUER P-232 IN .380 AND IT IS A MUCH BETTER PISTOL THAN THE TAURUS.IF YOU GO WITH A .380,TRY A SIG-SAUER OR A WALTHER,AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED THOSE ARE THE BEST .380'S IN THE WORLD

When you say "first handgun" I guess it makes me stop and think where she wants to go with it. If she wants to wind up carrying a defensive caliber you might want to consider a .22 revolver. There are several good ones and they're reasonable.
