Sheriff's deputy charged with possessing unregistered gun
By Associated Press, 6/21/2002 16:48
ALBION, N.Y. (AP) A sheriff's deputy who filed a domestic-violence complaint against her husband was suspended with pay after being charged with possessing an unregistered handgun.

Amy Mulroy Christ, 31, who joined the Orleans County sheriff's department in 1997, was charged Thursday with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. If convicted, she could get up to one year in jail.

After filing the complaint against her husband, the couple were ordered by a judge to surrender all guns in their home, state Police Investigator Andre Dunlap said in Friday's Daily News of Batavia.

A background check on each weapon revealed that one handgun was not registered, Dunlap said.

The gun belonged to Christ's brother, and she never submitted paperwork to register the gun in her name or on her sheriff's department shield, Dunlap said. A hearing was set for July 13.
