Man tied up by robbers breaks free, shoots one
DADE CITY - A gun battle erupted outside Dade City on Sunday after a trio of armed robbers picked the wrong family to mess with.
Deputies say William Newman was mowing his yard on Darby Road when the men tied him up to a tractor, then went inside to rob his home.
Newman freed himself, but was shot in the leg. He managed to make it to a barn with a phone inside where he called 911 and his son-in-law.
His son-in-law got there before police.
"He saw some of the suspects. The suspects were on the driveway; they raised their weapons at him. He started firing back at the suspects. He thinks he may have shot one at that time; he's not sure," said Kevin Doll of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
In the meantime, Newman grabbed a gun and shot one suspect in the face.
One alleged gunman, Wilford Washington, was found hiding nearby and another, Aledward Robertson, was taken into custody Monday. Police are still searching for a possible third suspect.
Deputies think the men targeted the 59-year-old because he is an auctioneer. http://www.wfts.com/stories/020617dadecity.shtml
