N.C. Panel OKs Ban on Gun Lawsuits The North Carolina House of Representatives Finance Committee approved a measure that would block most lawsuits filed by municipalities against gunmakers, the Associated Press reported Oct. 4.At the same time, committee members rejected a bill that would have placed new restrictions on gun shows. The lawsuit bill would prohibit local governments from suing gun manufacturers for the lawful design, marketing, manufacture, distribution, sale or transfer of firearms or ammunition. The measure heads to the full House. The other bill would have required gun-show promoters to pay $500 for a permit from a local sheriff's department before holding a show. The intent was to allow sheriffs to better police gun shows and prevent illegal sales. In rejecting the measure, Rep. Pryor Gibson (D-Montgomery) stated that a permit could create more underground gun sales. "Please, let's not create a situation where we think we are doing the right thing but we are making it worse," Gibson said. http://www.jointogether.org/gv/wire/news/reader.jtml?Object_ID=546091
