Local militia here to help, leader says

Many people view militiamen as gun-toting right-wing fanatics, but the Brown County citizens militia leader says they're neighbors and friends, preparing to help in times of national and local disaster.

Both town and county officers said they haven't had trouble with militia members.

Although Chief Deputy Sheriff Jim Hupe said he would expect his department and militia to work together in emergency situations, Town Marshal Jack Dorsett said he wouldn't.

"It would all depend on what it was in the emergency before I would want them (involved)," Mr. Dorsett said.

Friends rally to help `little liver fund'

Plagued by a series of health problems, David Rudd has had more than his share of bad luck over the past 15 years.

However, a group of friends and family members are trying to change that.

To help David and his wife, Gloria, the group will hold a benefit auction and dance to raise money for medical expenses.

Larry Hawkins, who has known Mr. Rudd for about 30 years, said he couldn't ask for a better friend. http://www.browncountyindiana.com/update/breaking2.html
