Cherokees to build memorial to veterans
3. TAHLEQUAH -- The Cherokee Nation's Office of Veterans Affairs has announced plans to build a memorial to Cherokee Veterans.

The Cherokee Warriors Memorial will honor Cherokee veterans, both living and deceased, who have served or are serving in the United States military. It will be east of the Cherokee Nation Complex.

The memorial will include a 50-foot Cherokee Nation Seal, made of granite, surrounded by a brick walkway. Veterans' names will be engraved on the bricks. A granite monument, inscribed in both Cherokee and English, will stand near the top of the seal.

Three flag poles bearing the Cherokee, U.S. and POW MIA flags will fly in front.

The memorial is being funded through the sale of bricks for the surrounding walkway. Each brick is $25 and includes engraving up to three lines with 13 characters per line. For more information, or to purchase a brick, call Rogan Noble at (918) 456-0671, Ext. 2694
