Im not a happy camper, Ive been looking forward all this week to the gunshow this weekend! We drove over there to find a sign hanging in the window which read. Gun Show cancelled!
There was nothing in the paper about it being canceled, in fact there was an article stating that it would be held as scheduled!
Damm I really had my heart set on buying something and I actually had some money in my pocket for a change!
WHAT A BUMMER!!!!!!

That truly does suck. Which show was this, anyway?

Hey pa, don't ya just love the considerate buttholes. Hope you didn't have too far to drive. Many years ago a friend and I got tables at a show in Anniston, AL, a 5 1/2 hour drive each way. Left about 3 in the morning so we would have to only pay one night motel (this was back when funds was real tight). Got set up and about noon the show folks came around and said the County Sheriff was going to enforce the 'blue' law which at the time prohibited business from operating on Sunday except for business deemed a necessity to the public welfare (read gas station). So, to make a short story long, we wound up with 11 hours driving, a very slim public turnout, practically no sales, and totally worn out by the time we got home Sat night. We later found out that this was all brought about because the guy in charge of the show and the Sheriff were not exactly friends.

Ya,about the local 'suppliers'...read rip off artists.
Friend of mine bought a case of 30-06 ball in garand clips...for 250.00 bucks from the local 'supplier'...he has been been doing business with this guy for 20 years.
Imagine his surprise when I showed him an ad for the same thing ...for 159 bucks...
So go ahead..cut your ability to buy something by 40 percent...believe I will buy at gun shows and other places, myself.

What has happened is the Wal-Mart mentality has made it's way down to the consumer level.Wal-Mart is all about profits for THEM.If they put a few small business out ...oh well...That's business! They are loyal only to themselves. The other side of the coin is,used to be you'd get service for the extra bucks you spent at a local dealer, but that is going away fast! For instance, if I bought a gun at a local dealer, at the price he has on the gun,he
used to make a good deal on ammo, in quantity. Most often matching mail order, when you bought the gun. That doesn't seem to happen any more!If there was a problem with the gun, it would be handled, promtly. That doen't happen anymore either!
I have no qualms about spending money locally. But, I have got to get somethimg out of the relationship.I should not be expected to by from a local dealer just because he's there!
As far as the cancelled gun show, that does suck.

Might I suggest putting Judge Dread on the case!

Local supplier indeed, I went to try out my 10mm Ar-15 at a "Local supplier" and as I shot and purchased targets, he kept a running tab instead of charging me each time. I thought "well this must be for convenience" as well it was, however upon checking out I found it was also to disguise his absurdly ridiculous prices. First of all he does not allow outside ammo, no handloads, no remanufactured and nothing new, He claims that the reason is for fear that he will be sued if you have a KABOOM in his range with outside ammo and that only his ammo is covered by insurance. This is how this "supplier" justifies $16.00/box of .40SW American Eagle 180gr. FMJ ammo, how about $25.00 for a box of Federal 200gr HAL 10mm. He also "supplied me with 4 small NRA 25yard bullseye targets for a wonderfully discounted price of $8.00, oh and the man sized silouette's $3.75 a pop!! Now I know why his range fee's are only $5.00 AN HOUR. Walking out of there after an hour of shooting and $150 bucks lighter in the pocket I remembered why I made all those treks up into the mountains.

This "Supplier" scored a one time hit with me but I promise that will be it. Instead of offering reasonable prices and getting repeat customers he chooses to take you for as much as possible when you walk in the door and that is noone I want to give my money to.

I'll get my ammo at a show (if there is a deal to be found) or scour the internet then hit the hills where I feel GOOD after a day of shooting.

    RANT OFF

Oh and as far as gun show cancellations go, they are not a freak occurance. I think the best rule of thumb is to do what they say in Shotgun News, call the day of the show to be sure it was not cancelled. It saved me a bunch of driving as well as the agrivation.
