HO, HUM! DASCHLE ATTACKS BUSH ECONOMIC POLICY: So what else is new? "A few hours after Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle left the White House pledging cooperation on Iraq, he used the Senate floor to launch his own attack on what he called President Bush's 'atrocious' economic record. Daschle, D-S.D., accused Bush of doing little to spur the listless economy or address job and stock market losses, eroded retirement accounts and vanishing budget surpluses." Gore is also assailing Bush about economics, even though he knows absolutely nothing about economics. Of course, lack of knowledge didn't stop him from writing a book about the environment, either.

First thing is that Democratic "drunken sailor spending" is the primary cause of most reverses in the economy, something you'll never get them to admit. They won't answer any charges in that direction (or any other) and will give you one of many "labels" they always have ready when criticized that allows them to avoid arguing on the issues. Second, there was never a budget surplus to vanish. The only way they got a budget surplus was by including Social Security money (already earmarked) in the mix. Without that, there was still a deficit. But it is 9/11 and the war that gave us an actual budget deficit, not Bush's economic policies. Only people who "ignore politics" would fall for that fiction. Unfortunately, there are too many such people. (Source: Fox News, 9/19/2002) [092002-1]

THE WHOLE THING IS A MESS: My reaction to the story of the three Islamics saying frightening things in a Georgia Shoneys got me in a lot of trouble. I even got accused of being racist by friends for reacting in anger to something the whole world thought was real and still may be. Best-selling author and conservative columnist Ann Coulter will probably get in her own trouble over this because people are falling for the liberals' "don't profile Islamics" scam in droves. In a recent article she wrote: " By my count, the Muslims have given at least five versions of what happened. Eunice Stone has given one consistent story. She has been interrogated by law enforcement officials and is corroborated by another witness. According to the Boston Globe, the Three Stooges first told law enforcement officers they did it on purpose. Stone, they said, was watching them too closely and this got the poor little darlings' undies in a bundle. So they decided to scare her. One year after Muslims murdered thousands of people on American soil, evidently it's rude to look at three Muslim men decked out in Arabic garb." Then add the fact that they refused to cooperate in the beginning and this:

"Naturally, therefore, the men and their families accused Americans, especially Southerners [Why do they get to make bigoted comments about "southerners without any comment being made? -RT], of being ignorant racists. 'Just because of the way we look or the way we choose to live our lives, we're persecuted,' said the sister of one. Demonstrating her own open-mindedness, she explained the entire incident by saying, 'Unfortunately, they stopped in a restaurant in Georgia.' [Is that a bigoted remark, or what? -RT] No prejudice in that. It's interesting that the Muslims' denial of Stone's account was instantly and universally treated as having precisely the same credibility as Bill Clinton denying he had sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky. Even the Islamic Al Sharptons simply assume these guys are lying. The Muslims now say they didn't do it. Their defenders say they were joking." Which is it? Were they joking, or did they not do it?

Pardon me for dwelling on this, but being accused of racism by my friends hurts and I want to illustrate why I got so angry I made intemperate remarks. Add to all this the fact that television showed the "blowing up" of one of their backpacks, claiming there were explosives inside, that they claimed they found explosive devices in their car -- which they did not, plus the arrests that were made in Chicago, and it sounds like the local authorities were bound and determined that these men were going to be "demonized" even if they weren't guilty of anything except a lousy sense of humor. I bought it, and I shouldn't have. But that doesn't make me racist. I've been called racist by "hate hunters" and that doesn't bother me. Their standards are so low they find racists under every bed. But being thought racist by my friends does. I promise this will be the last I write about this unless new information comes out, proving what was really the truth, one way or the other. And I promise never again to "buy" what the mainstream media says about anything. (Source: Columnist Ann Coulter, in World Net Daily, 9/18/2002) [092002-2]

DRUNKEN ATF AGENT GETS A BREAK: "The head of the Iowa office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is being investigated on allegations that he drunkenly threatened a group of nine teenage pranksters Monday night with a loaded gun. Jon Carl Petersen, 41, of Indianola was taken to the Warren County Jail on a charge of public intoxication, a misdemeanor. He was released without bond Tuesday morning on his promise to appear in court and was at work later in the day [Enforcing the law against "other people,", of course. -RT]. A woman who answered the phone at the Des Moines ATF office declined to forward a reporter's call to Petersen. She referred questions to his supervisor in Kansas City, Mo. The supervisor, Paul Vido, said Petersen will be allowed to carry a weapon while local and federal authorities investigate the altercation. 'These are allegations,' he said. 'No charges have been filed regarding a weapons violation.' "

And why is that, you may ask? If you or I drunkenly threatened teenagers with a gun, the first thing that would happen is that we would be banned from ever again holding a gun, guilty or not, charges or not. The gun would be confiscated on the spot and the car we were driving, too. If he had been a "civilian," he would still be in jail, pending trial. Not at work "enforcing the law" against other people while under investigation for a felony [He should at least have gotten a paid vacation until they could decide whether or not he was a felon. -RT]. This is yet another example of the double standard applied to federal agents when they stupidly get in trouble. It gets stonewalled and, after everybody forgets about it, it gets "swept under the rug." Watch for that to happen here. (Source: Des Moines Register, 9/18/2002) [092002-3]
RAY'S SHORTS: These are very short items, but on important subjects. Some I wrote; some are quotes. All are important:

Where losers go to meet other losers: "Most people have the decency to ignore these global extravaganzas (United Nations-sponsored conferences). The only ones who take such conferences seriously are the hopelessly na?ve, the hopelessly ideological, and the diplomats who have to." (Columnist Paul Greenberg)

She just doesn't get it -- or won't: Hillary says: "I don't see any alternative (to repealing or postponing the Bush tax cuts). And what bothers me is that the administration and their allies in Congress have not been willing to admit that their economic policies have failed." [It's probably because they haven't failed. Any failure of economic policies by the Bush administration is only in the minds of Hillary and those who still don't understand that tax reduction stimulates the economy, rather than the other way around. (Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-NY)

Who's afraid of the big bad (Canadian) wolf? "The prime minister of Canada...warned -- tut-tut -- that before Canada supports a war against Iraq he wants solid proof of any links between Iraq and the terrorist network. . . . Whatever the final outcome, President Bush knows one thing about our neighbor to the north. Canada's war-making assets are so insignificant they couldn't suppress a soccer riot let alone be of any help in a war against terrorism." [Yet they pretend to "advise" us. -RT] (Arnold Beichman of the Hoover Institute) [092002-4]
