Mill Basin man fights off home invaders

DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
A man who was pistol-whipped in the vestibule of his Mill Basin home by two thugs posing as UPS delivery men managed to fight them off, police said yesterday.
The gunmen rang the front doorbell of the 42-year-old victim's Whitman Drive home at 7 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

When the man opened his front door, thinking he was going to sign for a package, one of the phony deliverymen pulled a pistol and beat him with it, cops said.

"They displayed a gun, pistol-whipped him, pushed him into the house and attempted to handcuff him and duct-tape his mouth," a Police Department spokeswoman said yesterday.

While suffering cuts to his head, face and body, the victim managed to fight off his attackers, who fled without stealing any property from the two-story brick house, cops said.

No guns were recovered, officials said.

The victim - whose name is being withheld by the Daily News - was discharged from Kings County Hospital yesterday, hospital officials said.

Police said that while no arrests had been made in the case yesterday and the investigation was continuing, it appeared the man was targeted.

"This was not a random thing; this guy was set up," a police source said.

It remained unclear why the man was attacked, the cop said.
