U.S. House Resources Committee Approves Dove Hunting Resolution- (02/28)National In an effort to improve hunting opportunities, generate revenue and provide for the conservation and enhancement of mourning dove populations, the House Resources Committee has unanimously approved a resolution to expand dove hunting in northern states. House Concurrent Resolution 275, introduced by House Resources Committee Chairman James V. Hansen (R-UT), calls for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to renegotiate the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 to allow mourning dove hunting to begin the last week of August in northern states. "These birds are an abundant species," said Chairman Hansen. "Biologists tell us that pushing the hunting forward a week in the North won't hurt the species at all - and it will make a lot of northern hunters happy." Thirty-five states would be impacted by this resolution. Included are California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Virginia and all states to the north which currently have a dove hunting season. http://www.ussportsmen.org/interactive/features/Read.cfm?ID=761
