Patriots Rally for America as Anti-U.S. Protesters Descend on D.C.

Thousands of pro-America demonstrators organized by the web site FreeRepublic.com are expected in Washington, D.C. Saturday, braving what city officials fear could be a wave of anti-globalist protesters hell bent on violence.

Police are braced for tens of thousands of anti-capitalist hooligans and terrorist sympathizers to fill city streets. In a sign that things could turn ugly, city workers cleared sidewalks on Friday of anything that wasn't nailed down.

FreeRepublic's "Patriots Rally for America" was planned as a counterbalance to the previously scheduled weekend of anti-American mayhem.

"It's a non-partisan rally to support America and to support our troops fighting the war on terrorism," an organizer told NewsMax.com.

"We figure the town's going to be full of people that are going to be trash-mouthing America. But we know there's a lot of people out there right now that would rather hear good things about the country."

The "Rally for America" kicks off at 10 a.m. at the corner of 17th St. and Constitution Ave. N.W. and will proceed to the Washington Monument, where it will continue till 3 p.m.

Scheduled speakers include Judicial Watch Chairman Larry Klayman, former Rep. Bob Dornan, R-Calif., Niger Innis of the Congress of Racial Equality, Insight Magazine's Paul Rodriguez, Project 21's Kevin Martin, Maria Heil of Second Amendment Sisters and others.

To learn more about the "Patriot's Rally for America," tune into C-Span's "Washington Journal" Saturday morning at 7:45 a.m. ET, where the competing demonstrations will be discussed. http://www.newsmax.com/showinsidecover.shtml?a=2002/4/19/224623
