Father of youth charged in fatal shooting has had his firearms license revoked, guns stolen from his apartment
By Associated Press, 4/23/2002 08:50
SPENCER, Mass. (AP) The father of a Spencer teen-ager accused of fatally shooting a friend last week had his gun license revoked two years ago after a gun stolen from his apartment was found on a juvenile, according to court documents.
Roger D. Lacroix Jr., 43, again had his license taken after last week's shooting.
Lacroix, father of Stephen A. Lacroix, 16, was living in Southbridge when he was charged by local police with improper storage of a firearm in connection with the theft of a .22-caliber handgun, according to documents in Dudley District Court.
A complaint was issued in March 2000 in Dudley District Court after Southbridge police said ''Lacroix left his firearm unsecured in his home, and it was subsequently stolen by a male juvenile.''
Southbridge Police Lt. Daniel Charette told the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester in an interview Monday that he recovered the handgun the same day it was reported stolen from Lacroix's apartment. The loaded weapon was found on the unidentified juvenile after he was arrested in an unrelated investigation.
As a result, Lacroix's firearms license was revoked for one year.
Stephen Lacroix pleaded innocent April 18 in East Brookfield District Court in the shooting of Lukas Huard, 17, also of Spencer, that same day. Police say Lacroix shot Huard with a .22-caliber rifle in Spencer.
Just weeks before Huard was shot in the face in the Lacroix's second-floor apartment, four pistols were reported stolen from the apartment on March 21, according to Spencer police Chief David B. Darrin.
After last week's shooting, Spencer police seized 16 weapons from Lacroix's apartment. Police also confiscated his license to carry firearms.
Worcester District Attorney John J. Conte said Monday the investigation was continuing.
