AB1219 This bill has been sitting in the senate since last year. Smart gun technology required on firearms by Jan 1, 2006.
AB1960 Would impose a fee on firearms manufacturers for retesting of handguns
AB1963 Allows police officers from out of state while in California to carry a concealed firearm
AB2080 Would require firearms dealers to receive verification of recipient's dealer license.
AB2081 Would suspend current law until Jan 2004 requiring state approved safety devices on new firearm sales. Bill Amended: Would exempt honorably discharged veterans from new "safety certificate" requirements. Failed passage, reconsideration granted....pending
AB2222 .50 Caliber ban. Failed passage, reconsideration granted...pending
AB-2580 This bill would authorize government inspections of the homes, places of business etc of those who have obtained permits for assault weapons, machine guns or other items classified as destructive devices. This would include semi-automatic rifles defined as "assault weapons" where the owner may have inherited or received the firearm by legal means after the registration period ended and obtained a permit to retain ownership per California's assault weapon laws. Bill modified removing private citizens who own registered assault weapons from inspection requirements
AB2695 Bans possession of a firearm for 10 years by anyone convicted of domestic battery Bill Amended: Would require Cal DOJ to develop a method of notification and firearms confiscation for those who become prohibited from owning a firearm. Withdrawn by author...on hold pending further action.
AB2793 Amends wording of existing gun control law - May mutate at a later date into a gun control bill. Bill Amended: Would exempt by model name and manufacturer, Olympic firearms currently banned by assault weapon laws. Passed in Committee 5/14/02, referred to Appropriations Committee
AB2902 Would authorize ongoing retesting of handguns approved for sale in California by the DOJ. Amended to eliminate recall (confiscation) of handguns sold but later found to be out of compliance.
HR35 Recommends that all police officers be designated as "federal deputies" in order to carry firearms on all modes of public transportation
SB464 Would allow random retesting of trigger lock devices. Make it illegal to offer to sell or sell an unapproved trigger lock device
SB510 Will modify current trigger lock law. Currently in inactive file...but can pop up at any time.
SB682 New! Senator Perata's bill would allow lawsuits agains gun makers.
SB1283 Domestic violence or hate crime victims would have "good cause" to be issued a concealed carry permit. Failed passage in committee.
SB1285 Would require the DOJ to grant waivers for firearms where no compatible safety device exists. Failed passage, reconsideration granted.
SB1319 Senate version of assembly bill AB1963 allowing out of state peace officers to carry concealed firearms in California - Failed to pass in committee.
SB1490 Would allow access by city and county prosecutors to state gun record sales for civil court actions. Passed committee...currently on senate floor awaiting vote.
SB1615 Allows registration of assault weapons under certain circumstances. Hearing cancelled by author, bill on hold.
SB1670 Modifies existing firearms safety device definition. allowing for generic description of similar firearms. Moved to senate floor May 14...awaiting vote.
SB1689 Bans "plastic knuckles" On senate floor pending vote.
SB1807 Would require police officers to seize firearms or deadly weapons at the scene of domestic violence. On senate floor pending a vote.

Ammo Tax Would place a ballot initiative before the voters authorizing 5 cent tax on each round or component e.g. bullet, primer, powder, brass. This legislation requires approval by the legislature and governor in order to be placed in front of voters this November. Currently in committee...no hearing date scheduled as of May 15.
